Motorola has officially entered the large foldable phone race with the launch of the Razr Fold, its first book-style foldable smartphone. The move puts Motorola in direct competition with devices like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and the Google Pixel Fold, marking a clear shift beyond the brand’s iconic flip-style Razr lineup.
Motorola unveiled the Razr Fold at CES 2026, positioning it as a productivity-focused device that opens like a compact tablet. The company aims to attract users who want a larger screen for multitasking, note-taking, and media consumption without carrying a traditional tablet.
Large displays and premium design
The Razr Fold features a 6.6-inch external display for everyday tasks and notifications. Opening the device reveals an 8.1-inch LTPO OLED inner screen with a 2K resolution, designed to deliver smooth scrolling and sharp visuals across apps and split-screen layouts.
Motorola chose a clean, understated design language, offering the phone in Pantone Blackened Blue and Pantone Lily White finishes. The hinge allows the device to open flat, while the overall form factor stays thinner than many early-generation book-style foldables.
Camera setup built for flexibility
On the camera side, Motorola equips the Razr Fold with a triple 50 MP rear camera system. The setup includes a primary wide sensor, an ultra-wide lens, and a 3x periscope telephoto camera aimed at optical zoom shots.
For selfies and video calls, the phone includes a 32 MP camera on the cover display and a 20 MP camera embedded inside the foldable screen. This dual-camera approach lets users choose between quick selfies when folded or higher-quality framing when the device sits open on a surface.
Stylus support and AI features
One standout feature involves stylus support. Motorola adds compatibility with its Moto Pen Ultra, allowing handwriting, sketching, and precise UI navigation. This feature targets users who value note-taking and creative workflows on larger screens.
On the software side, Motorola highlights AI-powered tools such as smart notification summaries, adaptive multitasking layouts, and contextual suggestions designed to streamline daily use.
Release window and what’s next
Motorola plans to release the Razr Fold in summer 2026. The company has not yet shared pricing, processor details, or battery specifications, leaving some key questions unanswered ahead of launch.
Even so, the Razr Fold signals Motorola’s most ambitious smartphone move in years. By stepping into the book-style foldable category, the company sets the stage for a direct showdown with Samsung and Google in one of the market’s fastest-evolving segments. And with Samsung just debuting the Galaxy Z Trifold, the competition promises to intensify this year.
