Samsung has officially unveiled the Galaxy Z TriFold, its first tri-fold smartphone and the company’s most ambitious foldable yet. The device introduces a dual-hinge design that unfolds into a tablet-sized screen while staying compact enough to carry when closed.
A new tri-fold form factor
The Galaxy Z TriFold uses two hinges instead of one, enabling the display to fold into three sections. When fully unfolded, the device becomes a 10-inch tablet-style screen, which makes it the largest internal display Samsung has used in a Galaxy foldable so far.
When folded shut, the TriFold works like a conventional smartphone using its external cover screen, which measures around 6.5 inches.
Display and build quality
Samsung pairs the tri-fold design with a 10-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel that supports a 120 Hz refresh rate for smoother motion and scrolling. The outer display enables full phone use without unfolding the main screen.
For durability, Samsung uses reinforced materials, including titanium rails, alongside its latest Armor FlexHinge engineering to support the dual-hinge mechanism. When fully open, the device reaches roughly 3.9 mm at its slimmest point and carries an IP48 rating for water resistance and limited dust protection.
Performance and software experience
The Galaxy Z TriFold runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite platform and ships with Android 16 and One UI 8. Samsung focuses heavily on multitasking, with flexible multi-window layouts designed for the large internal screen.
The phone also supports Samsung DeX, which can deliver a desktop-style experience for productivity workflows.
Cameras and multimedia
Samsung equips the Galaxy Z TriFold with a flagship-level camera system led by a 200 MP main rear sensor. The triple rear camera setup adds additional lenses for different shooting modes, while front cameras support calls and selfies in both folded and unfolded use.
Battery and charging
The Galaxy Z TriFold includes a 5,600 mAh battery designed to support the larger display. Charging options include 45 W wired fast charging, plus wireless charging and reverse wireless charging for accessories.
Availability and early market response
Samsung launched the Galaxy Z TriFold first in South Korea in December 2025, with additional market rollouts expected in early 2026. Early reports from launch indicate strong demand, with initial stock selling out quickly in South Korea.
Why the Galaxy Z TriFold matters
The Galaxy Z TriFold pushes Samsung’s foldables beyond the traditional phone-tablet hybrid into a true tri-fold category. It aims to deliver a tablet-like workspace in a pocketable form, raising the bar for large-screen mobile devices as competition in foldables accelerates.
What’s next
Samsung is expected to expand the Galaxy Z TriFold to more markets in early 2026, with wider availability planned beyond South Korea. Software updates will likely focus on refining multitasking, app scaling, and DeX features to better use the tri-fold layout.
The TriFold also sets the stage for stronger competition in the foldable space, as other manufacturers prepare their own large-screen and multi-fold devices. If early demand holds, Samsung may use the Galaxy Z TriFold as the foundation for a new premium foldable lineup in the years ahead.
