Keychron C100 Packs 100 Programmable Mechanical Keys Into a $64.99 Macropad

Keychron has introduced an unusually large mechanical macropad aimed at enthusiasts who want a huge number of programmable shortcuts without paying premium Stream Deck prices.

The Keychron C100 8K Giant Custom Macro Pad uses a 10 by 10 grid containing 100 mechanical keys. It connects over USB C, supports hot swappable switches, includes RGB lighting and can be programmed through QMK or Keychron’s browser based configuration tool.

The most surprising detail is the price. Keychron launched the C100 at $64.99, although the first batch has already sold out.

The C100 is effectively a programmable mechanical keyboard without a traditional typing layout.

Every key can instead be assigned to shortcuts, commands, application functions or other actions. That makes the device potentially useful for video editing, streaming, creative applications, productivity software and any workflow where you regularly repeat the same commands.

Its blank keycaps reinforce that idea. Keychron is not assigning a fixed purpose to the buttons, leaving you to determine what each one should do.

All 100 switches can be replaced

Keychron includes 100 Apex mechanical switches with the C100, but the board is hot swappable.

That means you can remove the included switches and replace them with other MX compatible options without soldering.

For keyboard enthusiasts, this gives the C100 significantly more customization potential than a conventional shortcut pad. You could choose lighter switches for rapid commands, tactile switches for stronger feedback or mix different switch types across sections of the board.

The keycaps can also be replaced if the blank design becomes difficult to navigate.

8,000Hz polling is unusual for a macropad

Another unexpected specification is the 8,000Hz polling rate.

That is a feature more commonly promoted on performance focused gaming keyboards and mice, where reducing input latency can matter more. A programmable macro board is unlikely to require such an aggressive polling rate for most everyday workflows, but Keychron has included it nonetheless.

The C100 also includes RGB lighting and fold out feet, giving you some control over appearance and typing angle.

Programming is handled through QMK and Keychron’s web based launcher, allowing extensive customization without limiting the hardware to a predefined set of functions.

The $64.99 price is what makes it stand out

A 100 key programmable device would normally be expected to cost considerably more, particularly when it includes mechanical switches, hot swap sockets, RGB and a custom PCB.

At $64.99, the C100 costs less than many far smaller programmable control surfaces.

That also makes it an interesting alternative to products such as the Elgato Stream Deck for people who care more about having a large number of physical programmable buttons than LCD screens on each key.

The first batch sold out quickly, although it is unclear whether that reflects exceptionally high demand or simply a limited initial production run.

Keychron is allowing interested buyers to register for restock notifications. If the C100 returns at the same $64.99 price, it could remain one of the more unusual and affordable options for anyone who wants an oversized programmable mechanical control pad.
