Xbox Cloud Gaming is now available on select Amazon Fire TV devices, expanding Microsoft’s cloud gaming push beyond consoles, PCs, and mobile devices.
The new app lets you play games directly on your TV without owning an Xbox console. You only need a compatible Fire TV device, a Bluetooth controller, and an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription.
Supported Fire TV models
At launch, Xbox Cloud Gaming supports the following devices:
- Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd generation)
- Fire TV Stick 4K Max (1st and 2nd generation)
Older Fire TV sticks and Fire TV Cube models remain unsupported for now.
How the experience works
Download the Xbox Cloud Gaming app from the Amazon Appstore, sign in with your Microsoft account, then pair a Bluetooth controller. Supported controllers include Xbox Wireless Controllers and PlayStation DualSense gamepads.
Games stream directly from Microsoft’s servers, so you do not need local installs or dedicated gaming hardware.
Game access and performance
Access requires an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, which unlocks a large catalog of cloud-enabled titles. The service can stream at up to 1080p and 60 frames per second, depending on connection quality.
Microsoft recommends a stable internet connection of at least 20 Mbps. Network latency and Wi-Fi quality typically matter more than Fire TV hardware power.
Why Microsoft is doing this
The Fire TV launch supports Microsoft’s device-agnostic gaming strategy. By bringing Xbox Cloud Gaming to popular streaming sticks, Microsoft lowers the barrier for households that do not own a console.
The move also expands Xbox’s reach through Amazon’s Fire TV platform, which already sits in millions of living rooms.
Current limitations
The Fire TV version includes a few notable constraints:
- No keyboard and mouse support
- No offline play
- No standalone game purchases without Game Pass Ultimate
- Limited Fire TV device compatibility
What’s next
Microsoft plans to keep expanding Xbox Cloud Gaming across more devices and platforms. Broader Fire TV support and additional smart TV integrations remain likely as cloud gaming adoption grows.
For now, the Fire TV rollout marks another step toward making Xbox a service-first platform rather than a console-only ecosystem.
