Microsoft Edge Will Auto-Open Copilot When You Click Outlook Email Links

Microsoft is preparing a new Copilot integration for Edge that will automatically open the Copilot side pane when users click links from Outlook emails. Copilot can then provide AI insights and suggested actions based on the email and the webpage. According to the Microsoft 365 roadmap, the feature is currently in development and is scheduled to begin rolling out in May 2026.

Copilot is Microsoft’s AI assistant built into Windows, Microsoft 365 apps, and Edge. In the browser, it works from the side pane and can summarize webpages, answer questions, and help users complete tasks based on the content on the page.

Clicking a link inside Outlook will open the webpage in Edge and launch Copilot at the same time. The assistant can review both the email context and the destination page.

Microsoft says Edge will open Copilot automatically when users open links from Outlook emails. The roadmap states Copilot can provide “contextual insights and actionable suggestion chips based on email and destination content.”

Copilot may highlight important information, summarize the page, and present next-step suggestions such as drafting a response or identifying action items.

Users will no longer need to open Copilot manually after opening links from Outlook emails.

Microsoft continues to integrate Copilot across Outlook, Teams, Windows, and Edge. This feature connects email activity directly with the browser’s AI assistant.

Microsoft lists the feature as in development. Availability may expand gradually after release.
