Microsoft Edge has added a new “Customize Edge” option under the More tools menu. Selecting it opens a side panel where users can change how the browser looks and adjust toolbar buttons.
The panel lets users switch between system, light, and dark modes, pick preset accent colors, and change the current theme. It also includes a section for toolbar controls, where buttons like Favorites, Downloads, History, and Collections can be turned on or off.
A Chrome-Like Customization Panel in Edge
The design and placement of this feature will feel familiar to many users. The layout closely resembles how Google Chrome's Customize Side panel, which also appears in a side panel and focuses on appearance and quick UI controls rather than full settings pages.
Edge follows a similar structure. The appearance preview appears at the top, color options appear below it, and toolbar customization comes later in the panel. The entire experience stays within the current window, without opening a separate settings tab.

Despite the Chrome-like presentation, the controls apply specifically to Microsoft Edge. Toolbar customization plays a bigger role here. This reflects Edge’s focus on configurable browser buttons and features.

This change makes Edge’s customization options easier to find and faster to access. It also reduces visual differences between Chromium-based browsers, which may help users who switch between Edge and Chrome feel more at home.
We observed this new Customize Edge panel in Edge Beta and Dev versions. It does not currently appear in the stable release.
