Steam Autumn Sale 2026 Already Ended, and the Next Storewide Sale Starts December 17

If you have been holding your Steam wishlist for the Autumn Sale that used to land in Thanksgiving week, you already missed it. The Steam Autumn Sale 2026 ran from Thursday, October 1, to Thursday, October 8, the second year Valve has held it well before Thanksgiving. The next storewide Steam sale does not start until December 17.

That leaves Black Friday, on Friday, November 27, without a storewide Steam event. Valve's event schedule for developers promises only to highlight games running Black Friday discounts through the Special Offers hub. With 24 days to go, the dates for that highlight have not been announced.

Between now and December 17, the only other date on that calendar is the Auto-Battler RPG Fest, from Monday, November 16, to Monday, November 23. The Steam Scream V horror sale ended at 10am Pacific on Monday, November 2.

When the Steam Winter Sale 2026 starts and ends

The Steam Winter Sale runs from Thursday, December 17, to Monday, January 4, 2027, at 10am Pacific, according to Valve's Steamworks page for the event. That is 6pm UTC on both days, and each end lands one day earlier than last year's December 18 to January 5 run.

The same page ties the sale to voting in the 2026 Steam Awards, but this year's nomination round has no date yet. Last year's Steam Awards opened nominations on Monday, November 24, and closed them at 10am Pacific on Monday, December 1, with the finalists put to a vote during the Winter Sale.

After the holidays, the Spring Sale 2027 runs March 18 to 25 and the Summer Sale June 24 to July 8, part of the full schedule Valve set out through mid-2027. The 2027 Autumn Sale has no date.

What Steam's Black Friday offers mean for your wishlist

Last year set the pattern. Steam did not host a Black Friday sale of its own. Instead, it themed its Discounts and Events page with Black Friday offers from November 24 to December 1, 2025, according to a Steamworks post explaining the Autumn Sale move. Each studio decided whether to take part.

The useful detail sits in the cooldown rules. A game cannot be discounted within 30 days of a previous discount, and last year's Black Friday offers counted toward that limit. The four seasonal sales are exempt, so a game discounted for Black Friday can still join the Winter Sale three weeks later.

The Discounts and Events page is changing too. Valve paused scheduling new Daily Deals, Midweek Deals and Weekend Deals at the end of September and plans to replace its hand-picked calendar with personalized recommendations early next year. Deals booked before the pause still run, but the rotating homepage slots are winding down.

Do Steam prices drop further once the Winter Sale starts?

Not for a game that is already discounted. Under Valve's discounting rules, a developer can edit or delete a discount only until it starts, so a game's opening sale price is the one it keeps. The seasonal front page also rotates its featured games across the whole event, instead of the 24-hour slots that once rewarded checking in every morning.

The exception is a late arrival. A game released, or given a price increase, less than 30 days before December 17 cannot join on the first day, but it can enter part-way through once its cooldown ends. If something you want launches in late November, check its store page again later in the sale.

How to set up Steam wishlist alerts before December 17

Wishlist emails are the easiest way to watch prices, but they have limits. Steam sends one only when a discount reaches at least 20 percent, covers the cheapest edition, and lasts longer than eight hours, according to Valve's wishlist documentation.

Steam also holds back repeat emails about the same game for two weeks, a pause it may stretch during seasonal sales. A single email covers at most 25 discounted wishlist games, so a long wishlist will not fit in one Winter Sale alert.

The fix is a shorter list. Since July, Steam has let you sort wishlist games into your own categories and limit sale alerts to the ones you pick. A "waiting for a sale" category means the alerts you do get are about games you actually plan to buy.

That makes the next six weeks fairly simple. Trim the wishlist now, let the alerts flag any studio that discounts for Black Friday, and save the bigger purchases for December 17, when a game's opening sale price is the one it keeps. The next date to watch is Valve's announcement of its Black Friday window and Steam Awards nominations, which shared the same week last year.
