OnePlus has officially introduced the OnePlus 16 in China, bringing a much larger battery, a new 200MP main camera, faster display modes and Qualcomm's latest flagship processor.
The phone is currently limited to the Chinese market, with no wider international launch announced. That makes the hardware particularly notable because the OnePlus 16 represents one of the company's most substantial flagship upgrades in recent years.
Its biggest change is a 9,000 mAh battery, which is around 23% larger than the battery used in the OnePlus 15.
OnePlus 16 Packs a 9,000 mAh Battery
Despite the major increase in capacity, the phone does not appear to grow dramatically in overall size, although it is slightly thicker.
Charging remains fast, with support for 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
The phone also supports 27W reverse wired charging and 5W reverse wireless charging, allowing it to power other compatible devices.
| Feature | OnePlus 16 |
|---|---|
| Battery | 9,000 mAh |
| Wired charging | 100W |
| Wireless charging | 50W |
| Reverse wired charging | 27W |
| Reverse wireless charging | 5W |
| Processor | Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 |
| RAM | Up to 16GB DDR5X Ultra |
| Storage | Up to 1TB UFS 4.1 |
| Display | 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED |
| System refresh rate | Up to 165Hz |
| Gaming refresh rate | Up to 185Hz |
The battery capacity is one of the most aggressive specifications in the current flagship smartphone market.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 Powers the Phone
The OnePlus 16 is among the first phones to use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor.
It can be configured with up to 16GB of DDR5X Ultra memory and as much as 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage.
Storage is not expandable.

On the front, the device uses a 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED panel.
The display supports a system-wide refresh rate of up to 165Hz, while compatible games can push that figure to 185Hz.
That makes the OnePlus 16 particularly focused on smooth interaction and gaming, although actual support for the highest refresh rate will depend on individual titles.
Main Camera Jumps to 200MP
OnePlus has also made major changes to the rear camera system.
The previous 50MP primary sensor has been replaced by a 200MP main camera using a 1/1.4-inch sensor and an f/1.6 aperture lens.
The telephoto camera remains at 50MP but gains a larger 1/1.95-inch sensor and provides 3x optical zoom.
A 50MP ultrawide camera completes the rear setup.
| Camera | Specification |
|---|---|
| Main | 200MP, 1/1.4-inch sensor, f/1.6 |
| Telephoto | 50MP, 3x optical zoom, 1/1.95-inch sensor |
| Ultrawide | 50MP |
The upgraded hardware gives the OnePlus 16 significantly stronger camera specifications on paper.
However, image processing will remain important, particularly after OnePlus ended its Hasselblad partnership following the OnePlus 13 generation.
One Color Gets Rear Notification LEDs
The OnePlus 16 comes in three finishes: Tomorrow's Starlight, Martian Masterpiece and Dark Forest.
Only the Tomorrow's Starlight version includes an LED notification system built into the rear casing.
The lights can provide visual alerts for incoming calls and messages, giving that model a feature not available on the other two finishes.
This adds a visual customization element without changing the core hardware across the range.
China Pricing Starts at 5,699 Yuan
The base OnePlus 16 configuration includes 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
Pricing starts at 5,699 yuan, which is approximately $850 based on the conversion given in the source.
That represents a higher starting price than previous generations in China.
The increase comes alongside upgrades to the battery, processor, display and camera system, so the OnePlus 16 is positioned as a more ambitious flagship rather than a minor annual refresh.
International Availability Remains the Biggest Limitation
For buyers outside China, the main issue is availability.
The OnePlus 16 has not been announced for many international markets, meaning its combination of a 9,000 mAh battery, 200MP camera and 185Hz gaming display may remain limited to China.
That is especially significant because the hardware places it among the more aggressive Android flagships currently available.
For now, the OnePlus 16 stands out less for a single specification than for how many high-end components OnePlus has combined into one device, particularly its very large battery, high refresh display and upgraded camera system.
