Gears of War: E-Day is still an Xbox console exclusive, but some PlayStation 5 owners have found an unofficial way to play it by using Xbox Cloud Gaming on a jailbroken PS5.
A new homebrew application called PSBox Cloud Gaming allows Microsoft's cloud gaming service to run directly on modified PlayStation 5 consoles. That means compatible Xbox games can be streamed to Sony's hardware even when they do not have an official PS5 version.
The method requires a jailbroken console and comes with important limitations. Modifying a PS5 in this way violates Sony's normal platform rules and can prevent access to PlayStation Network services.
PSBox Cloud Gaming Brings Xbox Streaming to Modified PS5 Consoles
PSBox Cloud Gaming is available as an unofficial project through GitHub.
Once installed on a compatible jailbroken PS5, the application provides access to Xbox's cloud gaming service directly from the console.
That creates an unusual situation where a PlayStation system can stream an Xbox exclusive that Sony's platform does not officially support.
Gears of War: E-Day is one of the clearest examples because Microsoft and The Coalition have kept the game exclusive to Xbox Series X|S on consoles, alongside its Windows PC release.
| Detail | Information |
|---|---|
| Application | PSBox Cloud Gaming |
| Platform | Jailbroken PlayStation 5 |
| Service used | Xbox Cloud Gaming |
| Example game | Gears of War: E-Day |
| Native PS5 version | No |
| Main limitation | Requires console modification |
| PlayStation Network access | Can be affected or unavailable |
The game itself is not running natively on PS5 hardware. The console is effectively acting as a client that receives the game stream from Microsoft's servers.
Cloud Streaming Is Not the Same as a Native PS5 Port
Although the setup makes E-Day playable on a PS5, it does not mean the game has secretly been ported to PlayStation.
Performance, image quality and responsiveness depend on Xbox Cloud Gaming rather than the PS5's own CPU and GPU.

Network quality also becomes important because every input has to travel to Microsoft's cloud servers before the resulting video stream is sent back to the console.
That can introduce more latency and compression than playing the game locally on Xbox Series X|S or PC.
Players also remain subject to Microsoft's cloud gaming restrictions, including any limits placed on available streaming time.
Jailbreaking Comes With Significant Tradeoffs
The biggest obstacle is the need to jailbreak the PS5.
A modified console can run unofficial applications and custom software, but it may lose access to Sony's online services and official platform features.
There is also no guarantee that homebrew applications will continue working after future system software updates.
For most PS5 owners, buying or using an Xbox or PC remains the simpler way to play E-Day.
The unofficial method is more relevant to enthusiasts who already maintain a jailbroken console and are comfortable working outside Sony's normal software environment.
Xbox Exclusivity Makes the App More Interesting
Xbox's wider multiplatform strategy has reduced the significance of unofficial solutions for many games because several Microsoft titles now appear on competing platforms.
Gears of War: E-Day is different.
The Coalition has emphasized the game's place within the Xbox ecosystem, and no official PlayStation 5 release has been announced.
That makes PSBox Cloud Gaming a curious workaround for players who want to experience the game from a PS5 without owning additional gaming hardware.
It does not change Microsoft's release strategy, and it does not create a native PlayStation version. What it does show is how far the PS5 homebrew scene has progressed, with modified consoles now capable of running services that Sony never intended to support.
