NVIDIA has introduced a new Frame Generation model designed to increase performance on GeForce RTX 50 and RTX 40 series graphics cards, with the company claiming gains of up to 35% compared with its existing performance mode.
The new option is called Preset C and is available through the NVIDIA app as an experimental setting. It works with supported Frame Generation, Multi Frame Generation and Dynamic Multi Frame Generation titles.
The higher performance comes from replacing one of the AI models used during frame generation with a newer and lighter version.
Preset C Uses a Faster AI Model
NVIDIA's current frame generation system uses two AI models.
The first analyzes game data such as motion vectors and depth information to understand how objects move between rendered frames.
A second model handles optical flow, which is useful for elements such as interface graphics and ray traced effects that may not be represented completely by traditional motion vector data.
When Preset C is enabled, NVIDIA replaces this second model with a newer version designed to require less processing.
| Feature | Preset C |
|---|---|
| Supported GPUs | RTX 50 and RTX 40 series |
| Maximum claimed FPS gain | Up to 35% |
| Main change | Lighter optical flow AI model |
| Supported technologies | Frame Generation, Multi Frame Generation and Dynamic Multi Frame Generation |
| Quality impact | Minor visual trade off |
| Availability | NVIDIA app beta or experimental features |
Reducing the workload of this stage allows more frames to be produced without changing the main rendered frame generation process.
NVIDIA says that this can result in significantly higher frame rates.
RTX 5060 Was Used for NVIDIA's Performance Comparison
NVIDIA demonstrated the new mode using a GeForce RTX 5060.
According to the company's performance chart, Preset C delivers substantially higher frame rates than the previous Frame Generation performance configuration.
The maximum uplift reaches around 35%.
The improvement is not limited to RTX 50 series hardware.
NVIDIA says RTX 40 series GPUs can also use the new model, which means owners of previous generation cards can experiment with the same performance focused setting.
Actual gains will depend on the game, GPU and Frame Generation configuration being used.
Higher FPS Comes With a Small Image Quality Trade Off
Preset C is specifically intended for players who prioritize frame rate.
NVIDIA acknowledges that the lighter model can cause a small reduction in visual quality compared with the existing implementation.
The source describes the difference as minor, although the exact impact may vary depending on the title and scene.
That makes the setting more of an optional performance mode than a universal replacement for the existing Frame Generation model.
Players who prefer maximum image stability can continue using other presets, while those chasing higher displayed frame rates can try Preset C.
How to Enable NVIDIA Frame Generation Preset C
The option is currently accessed through experimental features in the NVIDIA app.
First, install the latest NVIDIA app update.
Open Settings and then About, followed by enabling the option labeled Opt in to access Beta or experimental features.

After the beta update downloads and installs, open the Graphics section.
You can then select an individual supported game or use Global Settings if you want the option applied more broadly.
Under Driver Settings, open DLSS Override Model Presets.
Choose Custom, open the Frame Generation menu, select Preset C and apply the change.
The setting will only affect games that support the relevant NVIDIA Frame Generation technologies.
RTX 40 Owners Also Benefit From the Update
One of the more useful parts of this release is that it is not restricted to NVIDIA's newest GPUs.
RTX 40 series cards already support standard Frame Generation, and Preset C gives those GPUs another way to improve displayed frame rates without requiring new hardware.
RTX 50 series owners can use the same model across Multi Frame Generation and newer dynamic modes.
The new preset therefore gives NVIDIA another performance option across two GPU generations.
For players comfortable accepting a small image quality reduction, Preset C could provide a useful boost in supported titles, particularly when higher frame rates matter more than maintaining the highest possible output quality.
