PS5 Hypervisor Exploit Reaches Firmware 13.60, but It Is Not a Full Jailbreak Yet

A new PlayStation 5 exploit called Byepervisor Reborn has opened access to the console's hypervisor on newer firmware, including version 13.60, giving homebrew developers a stronger foundation for future jailbreak tools.

The release is significant because the hypervisor is one of the PS5's most important security layers. Gaining access to it can make deeper system modification possible, but Byepervisor Reborn is not a complete jailbreak package and is not intended for regular players in its current form.

The developers describe it as a base exploit designed for further development rather than a finished homebrew solution.

Byepervisor Reborn Targets Rest Mode Recovery

The exploit takes advantage of a vulnerability related to how the PS5 recovers from Rest Mode.

By using that weakness, developers can access the hypervisor's address space and disable execute only memory protections.

That leaves the kernel available for dumping and patching, which is important for future homebrew development.

13.60Supported
13.20Supported
13.00Configuration included but untested
6.xx and newerVulnerability may potentially apply
14.00Modified implementation may be possible, but not provided

The important distinction is that theoretical vulnerability coverage is not the same as practical support.

Although the underlying flaw may work on firmware versions as old as the 6.xx series, the current release does not provide complete support across that entire range.

Regular PS5 Owners Cannot Do Much With It Yet

Byepervisor Reborn does not include the patches and payloads needed to turn the exploit into a normal consumer jailbreak.

That means you cannot simply install it and immediately gain access to homebrew applications, package loading or Linux.

The developers specifically warn that the current release is meant for other developers.

Additional work is required to create updated payloads, firmware specific patches and tools that can take advantage of the hypervisor access.

That makes this release more important as infrastructure for the PS5 hacking community than as something an average player can use today.

Firmware 14.00 Remains Complicated

The developers believe a modified implementation could potentially work on firmware 14.00.

However, no working version for that firmware has been released.

There is also another limitation: firmware 14.00 currently lacks a publicly available kernel exploit.

Hypervisor access alone therefore would not automatically create a complete jailbreak path on that version.

The current practical focus remains on supported firmware such as 13.60 and 13.20.

PS5 Homebrew Development Has Accelerated

The release follows several recent advances in PS5 exploitation.

A separate exploit introduced in September combined browser access, kernel exploitation and an ELF loader for firmware 13.60.

That method also improved reliability compared with earlier approaches that could leave users waiting for long periods during exploit attempts.

Byepervisor Reborn could now provide another major piece of the system needed for more advanced homebrew on newer firmware.

Potential future uses include improved package loading, broader Linux support and deeper system modifications.

Those capabilities are not available through this release by itself.

Linux and Homebrew Already Work on Older Firmware

Modified PS5 systems can already do more than they could a year ago.

Linux support has reached firmware 7.61, while homebrew tools include emulators and unofficial performance patches for older PlayStation 4 games.

Other recent projects have also expanded what jailbroken consoles can run, including unofficial Xbox Cloud Gaming software and emerging PS3 emulation.

These developments help explain why a hypervisor exploit matters.

If developers can build reliable tooling around Byepervisor Reborn, newer firmware versions could eventually gain access to features that are currently limited to older jailbroken systems.

For now, however, Byepervisor Reborn should be viewed as an important technical step rather than a ready to use PS5 jailbreak. It gives developers lower level access to newer firmware, but the tools needed to make that useful for ordinary players still have to be built.
