How to show battery percentage in the taskbar on Windows 11

For a long time, Windows laptops have shown a battery icon in the Taskbar whenever the device runs on battery power. However, for reasons that puzzled many users, the system never displayed the battery percentage alongside the icon. In the past, some PC manufacturers added custom utilities to show this information, but Windows itself didn’t offer a native option.

That’s finally changing. Microsoft is introducing a built-in battery percentage indicator in Windows 11, allowing users to see exactly how much charge remains at a glance. This feature is available starting with Windows 11 build 26120.2992 (KB5050083) or newer.

In most cases, the option appears automatically in the Power & battery settings. However, if it’s not visible yet, you can manually enable it using ViveTool, a popular third-party utility that allows advanced users to turn on hidden or gradually rolling-out features.

Show battery percentage in the Taskbar on Windows 11

If the feature is already available on your system, you can enable or disable it directly from the Settings app.

To show or hide the battery percentage on Windows 11, follow these steps:

1. Open Settings on Windows 11.
2. Click on System.
3. Click the Power & battery page.
4. Turn on the Battery percentage toggle switch to show the percentage in the System Tray.
   
   
5. Turn off the Battery percentage toggle switch to hide it.

Once you complete the steps, the battery percentage will appear next to the battery icon in the Taskbar’s System Tray. The same information will also be visible inside the Quick Settings flyout.

Note: This option is only available on devices with a battery. If your system shows only a “Power” section instead of “Power & battery,” the feature won’t be available.

Enable battery percentage in Taskbar using ViveTool

If the Battery percentage option doesn’t appear in Settings, you can enable it manually using ViveTool.

To enable the battery percentage setting with ViveTool, follow these steps:

1. Open the GitHub website.
2. Download the latest ViveTool-vx.x.x.zip file.
3. Double-click the ZIP file to open it in File Explorer.
4. Click Extract all, then click Extract.
5. Copy the path to the extracted folder.
6. Open Start.
7. Search for Command Prompt, right-click the top result, and select Run as administrator.
8. Type the following command to navigate to the ViveTool folder and press Enter: cd c:\folder\path\ViveTool-v0.x.x (Replace the path with the actual folder location on your computer.)
9. Type the following command to enable the battery percentage feature and press Enter: vivetool /enable /id:48822452,48433719
10. Restart the computer.

If the setting still doesn’t appear, try this alternative command:

vivetool /enable /id:56328729,48433719

Restart the device again after running the command.

Once the system boots back up, the Battery percentage toggle should now be available on the Power & battery settings page.

The new battery percentage indicator is a small but meaningful improvement in Windows 11, making it easier to monitor remaining battery life without opening additional menus. While the feature is still rolling out gradually through Insider builds, users who already have access—or are comfortable using ViveTool—can enable it right away. As Microsoft continues refining Windows 11, changes like this bring long-requested functionality directly into the operating system, eliminating the need for third-party tools or manufacturer-specific add-ons.
