IO Interactive has released a free Starter Pack for 007 First Light on Xbox Series X and Series S, allowing players to experience the opening mission of its James Bond adventure without purchasing the full game.
The free edition includes the game's introductory mission, Against All Odds, which follows a younger version of James Bond before he earns his license to kill.
The announcement comes several months after 007 First Light launched on May 27, 2026, receiving positive reviews for its action, storytelling and interpretation of the famous British spy.
Alongside the free trial, the complete game is currently available at its lowest reported price on the Xbox Store.
007 First Light Free Starter Pack Includes the Opening Mission
The Starter Pack gives players access to the first mission, set against the stormy landscapes of Iceland.
During the opening sequence, Bond investigates a compromised MI6 drop and searches for a missing scientific team.
The mission introduces the game's approach to espionage, investigation and action while establishing its younger interpretation of James Bond.
Developed by IO Interactive, the studio behind the Hitman franchise, 007 First Light follows Bond's early career rather than adapting an existing movie storyline.
The game combines stealth, combat and cinematic sequences as players progress through its missions.
The free edition provides an opportunity to experience these mechanics before deciding whether to purchase the complete adventure.
However, the Starter Pack only includes the opening mission, with the remaining campaign requiring a separate purchase.
007 First Light Drops to $41.99 on Xbox Store
The full version of 007 First Light is also receiving a discount on Xbox.
The game is currently available for $41.99 in the United States and £35.99 in the United Kingdom.
According to the announcement, this represents its lowest price so far.
007 First Light has received favorable reviews since launch, holding a Metacritic score of 88 on Xbox.
The game is also available on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC, although the newly announced Starter Pack is specifically highlighted for Xbox.
To access the free trial, open the Xbox Store, search for 007 First Light and select the Free Starter Pack edition.
You can then download the introductory mission and experience the game without purchasing the complete version.
IO Interactive has not announced an expiration date for the free Starter Pack.
