Apple Mac Mini M6 Drops to $779.99 at Amazon, but Its Memory Runs at 153GB/s

Apple's 2026 Mac mini with the M6 chip is down to $779.99 at Amazon, and it is the one build Apple does not quote its headline memory speed for. The listing advertises 170GB/s of memory bandwidth. Apple's own tech specs page rates this 16GB configuration at 153GB/s.

The Amazon page identifies the exact build as a 12-core CPU, a 12-core GPU, 16GB of unified memory and a 256GB SSD. Apple sells that same configuration for $899, so the listing is cutting $119.01 from the maker's price.

That gap goes further than it first appears. Apple's education store charges $799 for this Mac mini, which puts the Amazon price $19.01 under what students and school staff pay.

The 170GB/s figure belongs to a paid upgrade

Apple's Mac mini tech specs page lists 153GB/s of memory bandwidth in the M6 chip column for both 16GB models. The 170GB/s number appears in the memory row, attached to the line "Configurable to: 24GB or 32GB".

Apple's announcement used the hedged phrasing "higher memory bandwidth up to 170GB/s". The Amazon bullet repeats the same "up to" framing, bundled with "up to 32GB of unified memory".

Bandwidth is the figure that matters most for local AI models, which have to stream weights through memory constantly. Buyers planning to run large language models on this machine are looking at roughly 10 percent less throughput than the marketing graphic shows.

Thunderbolt 4 here, Thunderbolt 5 on the pricier chip

The three rear USB-C ports are Thunderbolt 4, which Apple rates at up to 40Gb/s and DisplayPort 1.4 speeds. Genlock is not available on the M6 model.

The same chassis with the M5 Pro chip gets three Thunderbolt 5 ports at up to 120Gb/s and DisplayPort 2.1. That is a real ceiling for anyone planning fast external storage or a high-bandwidth dock, and it is one reason Thunderbolt 4 monitors remain the sensible pairing for this model.

The front edge adds two USB-C ports at 10Gb/s and a headphone jack. Ethernet runs at 2.5Gb and can be built to order at 10Gb, an option a prebuilt retail box forecloses.

How it lines up against other Amazon desktops

The discount exists only on the base build. The step-up Mac mini with 24GB and 512GB is $1,299.00, carries no discount badge, and is marked as usually shipping within three to five weeks.

ModelConfigurationAmazon price
Apple Mac mini M616GB, 256GB SSD$779.99
Apple Mac mini M624GB, 512GB SSD$1,299.00
Apple Mac Studio M5 MaxNot listed on the product page$2,299.00
GEEKOM AX8 MaxRyzen 7 8745HS, 16GB, 1TB SSD$749.00
ASUS Chromebox 5aCore i3-1315U, 8GB, 128GB SSD$479.99

The Mac Studio with M5 Max is $2,299.00, down from $2,499.00, for anyone whose work justifies the jump to a far larger Mac desktop. On the Windows side, the GEEKOM AX8 Max is $749.00 with 16GB and a 1TB SSD, though it is sold by the GEEKOM store rather than Amazon and the page warns that only 17 remain.

The cheapest route is the ASUS Chromebox 5a at $479.99, down from $584.72, but it runs ChromeOS on a Core i3. Shoppers weighing a small Windows box instead can compare it with recent mini PC discounts, and anyone who wants a screen built in should look at the discounted MacBook Air M5.

What the listing does not say

Neither page states what each memory or storage upgrade costs, so the price of moving from 16GB to 24GB is not published. Amazon is the seller and shipper, stock reads simply as In Stock, and no end date is given for the discount.

Apple's performance claims are its own, including up to 4.8x faster language model prompt processing than the M4 Mac mini and up to 2x faster graphics. Those figures come from Apple testing rather than independent results. Prices are accurate at the time of writing and can change without notice.
