Apple Mac Studio With M5 Max Drops to $2,299.99 in Amazon Deal

Amazon has the Apple Mac Studio with the M5 Max chip at $2,299.99, or $199.01 under Apple's own price. The cut applies to one build only, the entry configuration with 36GB of unified memory and a 512GB SSD.

That machine runs an 18-core CPU, a 32-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine. It is the cheapest Mac Studio Apple sells, which matters because the price climbs quickly once memory or storage goes up.

Amazon's badge reads 8% off a $2,499.00 list price. Apple's own announcement puts Mac Studio with M5 Max at $2,499 in the US, so the anchor is a price Apple still charges.

Which Mac Studio configuration this actually is

The Amazon title names the chip and stops there. Neither the title nor the bullet points state the memory or the storage, which is the detail that decides whether a Mac Studio price is good.

The configuration appears in the listing's product details instead. Those give the Apple part number MHL64LL/A, 36GB of installed memory and a 512GB SSD, and Apple sells that same build as a standard configuration in its own store.

Amazon's bullets also advertise up to 128GB of unified memory and up to 614GB/s of memory bandwidth. Those are lineup maximums, not this unit.

According to Apple's tech specs, this 32-core GPU version runs 36GB at 460GB/s. The 614GB/s figure belongs to the 40-core GPU build.

Apple quotes four Thunderbolt 5 ports at up to 120Gb/s, two USB-A ports at 5Gb/s, HDMI 2.1 and 10Gb Ethernet. The two front USB-C ports top out at 10Gb/s on the M5 Max, and only the M5 Ultra model gets Thunderbolt 5 on the front.

Those ports drive up to five external displays, and Thunderbolt 5 now reaches external GPU docks with 850W of power.

How the Amazon price lines up against Apple

Apple charges $2,499 for this configuration and $2,299 for education buyers, according to its announcement. Anyone who qualifies for education pricing is looking at a 99 cent gap rather than a discount.

The Amazon page carries two other numbers that are easy to mistake for the deal. A Used - Like New row lists the same machine at $2,199.00, and a card promotion offers $2,249.99 to buyers approved for an Amazon Visa.

Neither is the new buy box price. The buy box itself is held by Amazon.com rather than a marketplace seller, and the listing shows the machine in stock.

The price is not Prime gated. Nothing on the page marks it as a Prime exclusive, and no higher regular price sits beneath the buy box for non-members.

A second listing bundles the same Mac Studio with three years of AppleCare+ for $2,484.99, also sold by Amazon. That works out to $185 for the coverage.

Mac mini and Windows workstation alternatives

Two other routes are worth weighing at this price. One is a higher Mac mini configuration, the other a Windows workstation with a discrete GPU.

HP Z2 Mini G1aAMD Ryzen AI Max PRO 380AMD Radeon 8040S32GB LPDDR5X$1,899.99

The Mac mini with the M5 Pro chip is $1,549.99, sold by Amazon, with a 15-core CPU, a 16-core GPU, 24GB of unified memory and a 512GB SSD. It saves $750 and gives up a third of the memory along with the Studio's extra GPU cores.

On the Windows side, the Dell Pro Max Tower T2 is $2,549.99 with a Core Ultra 7 265, an RTX 2000 Ada with 16GB, 32GB of DDR5 and a 1TB SSD. Its buy box belongs to the marketplace seller Issaquah Highlands Tech, not Amazon, and the listing shows limited stock.

The HP Z2 Mini G1a is $1,899.99 with a Ryzen AI Max PRO 380, 32GB of LPDDR5X and Radeon 8040S graphics. That listing is also held by Issaquah Highlands Tech and is sold as a reseller-customized build rather than a stock HP model.

Compact machines built for local AI work are crowding in, such as the HONOR Tiangong AXB35 with 128GB. Apple's edge is software rather than memory capacity, and graphics features ported to Apple silicon still run slowly.

What the listing does not say

Amazon publishes no end date for the discount, no stock count and no price history. The bullet points carry asterisks on Apple Intelligence, Siri AI, Wi-Fi 7 and the storage speed claim, but the footnotes those asterisks point to are not on the page.

The listing also leaves out that the memory and the SSD are soldered in place. Nothing here can be upgraded later, so 36GB and 512GB are permanent, and Apple's own prices for more of either are steep.

The box holds a Mac Studio and a power cord, with no display, keyboard or mouse. Amazon's details table lists dimensions and weight that differ slightly from Apple's 7.7 inch square chassis and 6.0 pound figure, and the same table oddly claims the desktop requires a lithium ion battery.

Apple silicon also moves on quickly, and the M6 generation is already pointing at a 2nm process. Prices were checked on October 5, 2026, and they can change at any time.
