Xbox is getting a new boot up animation next week, and it is another sign that Asha Sharma is trying to give the brand a stronger identity again. Since taking over Xbox a little over two months ago, Sharma has already pushed several visible changes, including a refreshed logo and a clearer return to the green Xbox look many longtime fans remember.
The new startup animation was shown by Sharma on X, with the note that it is coming next Wednesday. It leans into a cleaner but more nostalgic Xbox style, with sound that some fans compared to older Windows startup tones.
Xbox is moving away from bland minimalism
For years, Xbox branding became flatter and quieter. The green never fully went away, but the brand lost some of the personality it had during the original Xbox and Xbox 360 years.
This new boot animation appears to be part of a wider visual refresh. Xbox has already added its new logo to dynamic backgrounds, gamer pictures, and other system areas. The goal seems to be a more recognizable Xbox identity rather than the plain “Microsoft Gaming” feel that had taken over parts of the brand.
| Xbox change | What it suggests |
|---|---|
| New logo | Stronger return to classic Xbox green |
| New boot animation | More personality when starting the console |
| Copilot on console canceled | Less focus on forced AI features |
| New leadership team | Sharma is rebuilding how Xbox operates |
| Stronger online presence | Xbox is trying to sound more direct and positive |
The timing matters because Xbox is going through a larger reset. Sharma has brought in new leaders, including people from CoreAI, but she has also stopped development of Copilot on console and is winding down Copilot in the Xbox mobile app. That helped ease concerns that Xbox would simply become another place where Microsoft pushes AI whether players want it or not.

A boot animation is a small change by itself, but it matters because console identity is emotional. Players remember startup sounds, dashboards, logos, and the feeling of turning on a console. Xbox has not always handled that well in recent years, so a more confident visual style is a welcome shift.
The bigger test is still ahead. A stronger logo and better startup animation can help the brand feel alive again, but Xbox also needs better games, clearer hardware plans, stronger developer tools, and a platform strategy players can trust.
For now, the new boot animation is another sign that Xbox is trying to feel like Xbox again. That is a good start.
