Windows Phone gets a new Telegram client called Vianigram

Windows Phone may be long abandoned by Microsoft, but fan developers are still finding ways to keep the platform usable in 2026.

A new Telegram client called Vianigram is now in development for Windows Phone. The app is still early, but it already supports several modern Telegram features, which makes it one of the more interesting recent projects for old Lumia devices.

The app uses MTProto for real Telegram chats rather than placeholder features. It already supports login through phone, SMS, two factor authentication, QR codes, and signup. It also includes chat lists, live updates, typing indicators, online status, read states, message bubbles, rich text, photos, voice messages, documents, polls, avatars, and background syncing.

That is a lot for a platform that has been out of support for years.

Here is what Vianigram currently supports:

FeatureStatus
Telegram loginPhone, SMS, 2FA, QR, and signup
Real chatsPowered by MTProto
Chat listPagination and live updates
MessagingText, photos, voice, documents, and polls
Rich textBold, italic, spoilers, links, and mentions
Voice messagesWaveform and scrubbing
Status featuresTyping indicators, online status, and read states
NotificationsToasts and live tiles generated locally
Background syncUses system tasks and local cache
AvatarsPreview and HD async loading

Push notifications are one of the main challenges. Windows Phone is no longer supported, so normal push systems are unreliable. Vianigram works around that with periodic maintenance tasks, VoIP based triggers, and local cache systems used for toast notifications and live tiles.

The app is not available through a normal app store. To try it, you need to find the developer’s Telegram channel by searching for “PivoraApps” or “VianiumApps” inside Telegram.

Vianigram is part of a wider fan effort to keep Windows Phone alive. Other projects have brought back app access through 8Marketplace, and some developers have even found ways to make Discord work on old Windows Phone devices.

This does not make Windows Phone a practical daily phone again for most people. Many modern apps are gone, services can break, and security support is long over. Still, Vianigram gives Lumia fans another reason to charge an old device and see how much of the platform can still work in 2026.
