Where Winds Meet is preparing for a major new expansion later this month, with NetEase Games and Everstone Studio opening the Imperial Palace as the next large area for players to explore. The update will also bring new modes, new systems, and several quality of life improvements.
The Imperial Palace is being presented as one of the game’s largest locations so far. The new area covers around 1 million square meters and is described as being similar in scale to Kaifeng. It will include the royal court and surrounding grounds, with more than 3,000 NPCs for players to meet, investigate, and interact with.
The setting is built around court politics, hidden plots, and palace intrigue. That gives the expansion a different tone from standard open world exploration, as players will be able to uncover secrets and become involved in conflicts inside the royal court.
The update will also add a new homestead system, giving players another way to build a personal space inside the game. A new companion system is also coming, along with Guantlet weapons that should add more variety to combat.

Two new game modes are also part of the expansion. Martial Path Domain is a five player cooperative PvE mode, giving groups a new way to take on combat challenges together. Ancient Tombs is an exploration focused mode where players enter dark tombs, fight enemies, and search for high tier loot.

A limited time Panda cosmetic will also be available starting May 19, 2026. The cosmetic is tied to an effort to raise awareness for wildlife protection.
The update comes as Where Winds Meet continues its first year of service. The game is currently around its half anniversary period and is moving toward its one year anniversary in November 2026. NetEase says it wants every season to deliver steady, high quality content while also responding to player feedback.
This expansion looks like an important step for the game’s long term support. The Imperial Palace adds a large new location, while the new modes and systems give players more reasons to return beyond story progress. For a live service open world RPG, that balance will matter if the developers want to keep the world active across future seasons.
