WD Black’s high end SN8100 PCIe 5.0 SSD is getting a major discount at Amazon, making it a strong option if your PC game library is running out of space.
The 2TB model is currently listed for $458, down from its $1,000.99 MSRP. That is a 54 percent discount, and it comes at a useful time because SSD and memory prices have been rising across the PC market.
The WD Black SN8100 is built for fast desktops and heavy workloads. It offers read speeds up to 14,900MB/s and write speeds up to 11,000MB/s, which is roughly double what many PCIe 4.0 drives can reach. That makes it useful for large game libraries, video editing, file transfers, and other tasks where storage speed matters.
| Capacity | Discounted price | Original price |
|---|---|---|
| 1TB | $267.99 | $494.99 |
| 2TB | $458 | $1,000.99 |
| 4TB | $872 | $1,989.99 |
| 8TB | $1,999.99 | $2,599.99 |
The 2TB model looks like the best deal of the group because the discount is steep and the capacity is enough for a large modern game library. Many PC games now take up more than 100GB each, so 1TB can fill up quickly.
The drive is also compatible with DirectStorage and AI workloads, which makes it a more future ready option for newer gaming PCs. It can work in PCIe 4.0 slots too, but it will be limited by PCIe 4.0 speeds. To get the full performance, you need a motherboard with PCIe 5.0 support.
There is one important warning: heat. PCIe 5.0 SSDs can run hot under heavy use, and the SN8100 is no exception. You should use it with a motherboard heatsink or a proper SSD cooler, especially if you plan to move large files, edit video, or run demanding games.

For normal gaming, the speed difference between a strong PCIe 4.0 SSD and this PCIe 5.0 model may not always feel dramatic. But if you regularly move huge files, install large games, record footage, or want a drive that will stay fast for years, the SN8100 is a serious upgrade.
At $458 for 2TB, this is still not a cheap SSD. But for a premium PCIe 5.0 drive with this level of speed, the discount makes it much easier to justify.
