Warhammer 40K Rogue Trader’s next DLC could reshape the game with cybernetic upgrades

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader is getting its third DLC expansion, The Infinite Museion, on June 11, 2026, and Owlcat Games is adding a major new system that could change how players build their party. The expansion is coming to PC, Xbox Series X and S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2, with a story centered on raiding the museum of Trazyn the Infinite, one of the most recognizable figures in Warhammer 40K lore.

The biggest new feature is the Augmentation system. This will let players install cybernetic implants, replace body parts with mechanical upgrades, and reshape characters with new active and passive abilities. Owlcat says the DLC will add more than 100 cybernetic augments across the game, which means the system is not limited to one small side feature. It is designed to affect combat, character building, and replay value in a major way.

The Augmentation system gives players more freedom, but every upgrade has a cost

The idea is simple. You can turn members of your retinue into heavily modified fighters with cybernetic tools that support different playstyles. Some augments can help characters teleport across the battlefield, attack enemies from behind, improve defense, or increase damage. Others can make characters built around Intelligence or Perception more effective in direct combat, giving players more options beyond traditional Strength based damage dealers.

Each character normally has six augmentation slots. These include two for the head, one for the torso, two for the hands, and one for the legs. Characters with Forge World or Adeptus Mechanicus backgrounds can have more slots, which fits their stronger connection to machinery and the Omnissiah. There is also a Galvanization slot, which lets players overclock one equipped augment during battle for a temporary boost. The trade off is that the character suffers a penalty afterward.

The system also has limits. Some companions cannot use augments because of personal reasons or biology. Cassia, Yrilet, Marazhai, and Ulfar are mentioned as examples. Some augments are also locked by Conviction, meaning Dogmatic characters may refuse Heretical upgrades, while Heretical characters may reject Dogmatic ones.

Every augment also carries a downside. A cybernetic part may improve one area while lowering a stat, adding a status risk, or making the character more vulnerable to electric and EMP damage. The more mechanical a character becomes, the more those weaknesses matter.

The Infinite Museion also introduces Eogunn Februs, a new Tech Priest companion, and sends players into Trazyn’s strange collection. For CRPG fans, the main appeal is clear. The DLC does not simply add another questline. It gives players another layer of build crafting, party planning, and tactical experimentation. For a game already known for deep choices, the Augmentation system could make Rogue Trader feel fresh again.
