Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4 launches on September 17 with early access and year one expansions

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4 finally has a release date. Deep Silver and King Art Games have confirmed that the real time strategy game will launch for PC on September 17, with players who buy the Commander Edition getting access three days earlier on September 14.

The announcement was made during Warhammer Skulls 2026, where the publisher also shared preorder details and the first look at the game’s post launch roadmap. The new entry brings the long running strategy series back to Kronus, a planet that older Dawn of War fans will immediately recognize as one of the franchise’s most important battlefields.

Commander Edition buyers get early access, soundtrack, and the full first year of content

Dawn of War 4 will be sold in two versions: Standard Edition and Commander Edition. Both versions include a 10 percent preorder discount, but the Commander Edition is the bigger package for players who already know they want to stay with the game after launch.

The Commander Edition includes the three day early access period, all Year One content, and the official digital soundtrack. That means buyers will get access to the game on September 14 instead of September 17, along with the paid expansions planned for the first year.

The year one roadmap includes both free updates and paid DLC. The first big free addition will be the return of Crusade Mode in the fall. More free updates will add new modes, map packs, and a Mission Editor that lets players create, play, and share their own battles.

Last Stand mode will also expand with new Commanders. Each Commander will have unique abilities, loadouts, and playstyles, along with bespoke Crusades that include special objectives and gameplay twists.

The paid content begins with two major campaign expansions. The first is the Blood Ravens Story Prologue, which follows a Blood Ravens strike force returning to Aurelia before the wider war consumes Kronus. The story focuses on ancient relics and events that help shape the future of the Chapter.

The second paid expansion is the Aftermath Campaign. This continues the main campaign’s story and explores the consequences of the player’s victories. It will also add a fifth faction across all modes, introduce new playable Commanders, and significantly expand Crusade Mode.

For longtime fans, the setting is one of the most important details. Kronus was central to Dawn of War: Dark Crusade, which remains one of the most loved entries in the series. Returning there gives Dawn of War 4 a strong connection to the franchise’s past while still leaving room for new factions, systems, and stories.

The launch plan suggests King Art Games and Deep Silver want Dawn of War 4 to last beyond its campaign. Between Crusade Mode, Last Stand updates, map packs, the Mission Editor, and two paid story expansions, the game is being positioned as a longer term RTS platform rather than a one and done release.

Dawn of War 4 will arrive on PC on September 17, with Commander Edition early access starting September 14. For Warhammer fans who have waited years for the series to return properly, the date is now set, and the first year of content already looks busy.
