Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4 could eventually launch on consoles, although developer King Art Games has not confirmed plans for a PlayStation or Xbox version.
Creative director Jan Theysen recently discussed the possibility of bringing the upcoming real time strategy game to consoles, explaining that the studio believes a port would be technically achievable.
However, adapting the game's extensive keyboard and mouse controls for a controller would require significant work.
The comments arrive ahead of Dawn of War 4's scheduled PC release on December 3, 2026.
Dawn of War 4 Developer Says Console Controls Would Need Major Changes
According to Theysen, the main challenge with bringing Dawn of War 4 to consoles involves adapting its controls rather than simply making the game run on different hardware.
Real time strategy games traditionally require players to manage units, select commands, navigate menus and respond quickly during battles.

On PC, these actions are typically performed using a combination of keyboard shortcuts and mouse inputs.
Theysen explained that Dawn of War 4 uses approximately 40 keyboard keys for different functions, making a direct conversion to gamepad controls impractical.
Instead, the studio would need to reconsider parts of the control system and potentially adjust gameplay interactions to ensure the experience feels natural with a controller.
King Art has previous experience bringing strategy games to consoles, including Iron Harvest and Battle Worlds: Kronos.
That experience could help the studio address similar challenges if it decides to develop a console edition.
However, Theysen emphasized that nothing has been officially announced.
King Art Is Already Considering Dawn of War 4's Future
The developer's comments indicate that King Art is exploring possibilities beyond the initial PC launch.
The studio is currently focused on delivering Dawn of War 4, which draws inspiration from several earlier entries in the franchise.
While the original Dawn of War remains an important influence, the developers have also incorporated selected hero mechanics, upgrade systems and interface features from Dawn of War 2 and Dawn of War 3.
These decisions are intended to modernize the experience while retaining the strategic gameplay associated with the series.
The game also features an advanced animation system called Combat Director, which presented considerable technical challenges during development.
For now, the studio has not confirmed whether a console version is actively being developed or which platforms might receive it.
A potential release would depend on whether the team can create a control system that works effectively without the precision and flexibility of a keyboard and mouse.
With the PC launch scheduled for December 3, further announcements about additional platforms may come after the initial release.
Until then, console availability remains a possibility rather than a confirmed development plan.
