GTA 6 Trailer Gets DLSS 5 Treatment at 90 FPS Using an RTX 4080, but There Are Some Limitations

A PC gaming enthusiast has demonstrated how NVIDIA's DLSS 5 technology can be applied to Grand Theft Auto VI footage, increasing the apparent frame rate from 30 FPS to 90 FPS through an experimental video processing setup.

The demonstration uses Rockstar Games' extended look trailer rather than actual gameplay. It combines neural rendering, upscaling and frame generation to modify the footage using an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 graphics card.

The results show noticeable improvements in some environmental details, although problems with character rendering and lighting remain visible.

The experiment also raises the possibility of applying similar enhancements to console games through an external gaming PC.

GTA 6 Trailer Runs at 90 FPS With Experimental Frame Generation

The demonstration was created using Veyra 2.1.1, a Windows application designed to process video sources using GPU acceleration.

The software supports video files, capture cards and Remote Play streams, allowing visual enhancements to be applied to footage from different sources.

For the GTA 6 experiment, the creator combined DLSS 5 neural rendering with three times frame generation, producing a 90 FPS output from footage originally running at 30 FPS.

An additional tool called MFG Unlocker was used to enable experimental Multi Frame Generation functionality on the RTX 4080.

The processed trailer shows improved detail in certain environments, but it also introduces visible artifacts.

Character appearances and lighting effects are particularly affected, demonstrating the limitations of applying neural rendering without access to the game's internal rendering information.

Unlike native game integration, this approach processes completed video frames without the motion vectors and geometry data normally available to rendering technologies.

GTA 6 Could Receive Similar Enhancements Through a PS5 and Gaming PC Setup

The creator also plans to experiment with processing live PlayStation 5 gameplay through a separate gaming PC.

The proposed setup involves connecting the console to a 4K HDR capture card installed in a PC equipped with an NVIDIA GPU.

Veyra would then process the incoming footage before sending the enhanced output to a television.

This could allow certain visual enhancements to be applied without requiring native DLSS support in the console game.

However, the method introduces additional input latency because gameplay footage must pass through several processing stages.

The creator has not yet completed the proposed PS5 setup, so its practical performance remains unverified.

Importantly, the 90 FPS demonstration does not mean GTA 6 itself is running at 90 FPS. Frame generation creates additional displayed frames without increasing the game's underlying simulation rate.

Whether this approach provides an enjoyable gaming experience will depend on capture hardware, processing delays and the stability of the visual enhancements.
