Tides of Annihilation devs are working with Epic and Nvidia to fix frame drops before summer demo

Tides of Annihilation is getting extra technical help from Epic Games and Nvidia as developer Eclipse Glow Games works to improve performance before a planned summer hands on event. The studio shared a new behind the scenes video focused on optimization, with special attention on the large scale Giant Knight battles that previously showed visible frame rate drops.

The game has drawn attention because of its ambitious combat scale. Tides of Annihilation is a single player fantasy action adventure set in a ruined modern London after an invasion from Avalon. Players control Gwendolyn, the last surviving inhabitant of the city, as she tries to rescue her sister and understand the truth behind the mystical attack.

The visual pitch is strong, but big set pieces also create technical pressure. Earlier footage showed battles against colossal enemies, including the Giant Knight, where the frame rate appeared to struggle. Eclipse Glow Games is now trying to solve that before more players get their hands on the game.

Epic helped improve the Giant Knight fight while Nvidia is working on deeper platform optimization

Epic Games helped the studio build a new hierarchical mounting solution for the Giant Knight’s Nanite mesh. It also helped analyze CPU and GPU performance issues, with tighter control over texture maps, logic, and animation to reduce computation costs. The goal is to make the large boss encounters smoother without losing the scale that makes them stand out.

Nvidia is also involved beyond the already announced DLSS and path tracing support. Eclipse Glow Games says it is working with Nvidia to improve the experience across multiple platforms, with future driver level optimizations planned before launch.

The planned summer hands on event sounds like it may be more than a closed press demo. The studio says registration will be open to all players, which suggests a downloadable demo could be possible. More details may arrive during the summer showcase period.

Tides of Annihilation was first revealed during Sony’s State of Play in February 2025. Its story takes inspiration from Arthurian legend, with Gwendolyn facing Mordred and powerful demigods, including the sisters of Morgan le Fay.

Combat uses what the studio calls the Dual Frontline Battle System. Gwendolyn can fight alongside up to four spectral Knights of the Round Table, each with different abilities such as air combos, ranged attacks, dashes, and wide slashes. Two knights can be active at once, and players can swap them during combat. One knight can also enter a synchronized partner state to strengthen Gwendolyn’s attacks and movement.

The game also includes giant enemy knights that players can scale and explore during boss fights. That feature is one of the most visually interesting parts of the project, but it also explains why performance work is so important. If those fights do not run well, the game’s biggest hook could become its biggest problem.

There is still no release date for Tides of Annihilation. The game is confirmed for PC through Steam and Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. For now, the main update is encouraging: the studio knows where the performance issues are, and it is working directly with Epic and Nvidia to fix them before players try the game this summer.
