The Talos Principle 3 has been announced, but Xbox players are being left out of the launch.
Devolver Digital and Croteam revealed the third entry in the puzzle series, calling it the “grand finale” of the saga. The game is currently listed only for PC and PlayStation 5, with no Xbox version announced.
That is frustrating because the first two Talos Principle games are available on Xbox. The Talos Principle 2 even launched day and date on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. Now, the final entry in the trilogy is skipping Xbox, at least for the moment.
For fans who played the series on Xbox, this means they may not be able to finish the story on the same platform.
| Game | Xbox status |
|---|---|
| The Talos Principle | Available on Xbox |
| The Talos Principle 2 | Available on Xbox |
| The Talos Principle 3 | Announced for PC and PS5 only |
The Talos Principle series has built a strong reputation for mixing first person puzzle design with philosophical writing. Its puzzles sit closer to games like Portal, while its story explores identity, consciousness, belief, and the future of humanity.
That makes the third game more than just another sequel. If it really is the final chapter, skipping Xbox cuts part of the existing audience out of the launch moment.
The decision also feels unusual because Devolver Digital has supported Xbox well in the past. Games like Cult of the Lamb, Trek to Yomi, Loop Hero, Death’s Door, Astroneer, and Ball X Pit have all had Xbox support. Ball X Pit was even promoted through ID@Xbox and included Xbox Play Anywhere support.
That makes The Talos Principle 3’s absence stand out more.
There may be practical reasons. Croteam is not a huge studio, and puzzle games are still a niche market. Launching on fewer platforms may reduce development, testing, and support costs. It is also possible that an Xbox version will come later.
But that is part of the problem. Devolver has not clearly explained whether Xbox players should expect a later release or whether the platform is being skipped completely.
Late ports can also struggle. When a game launches months later on another platform, the main discussion has often moved on. For a story driven puzzle game, missing the launch window can mean missing the community conversation around theories, endings, and puzzle solutions.

This also adds to a wider concern around Xbox. Some publishers may be becoming more selective with Xbox launches, especially for smaller or niche games. If developers feel Xbox sales are uncertain without a Game Pass deal, Microsoft may need to do more to keep these releases coming day and date.
The Talos Principle 3 may still arrive on Xbox eventually, but for now, the message is disappointing. Xbox players supported the series through its first two games, and the final chapter is launching without them.
For a trilogy ending, that feels like the wrong place to leave part of the audience behind.
