The Sinking City 2 moves to summer 2026 with a stronger survival horror focus

The Sinking City 2 is now planned for release in summer 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Frogwares has also shown new gameplay and explained how the sequel is changing from the first game. The original Sinking City leaned heavily on investigation, with horror built around the story and atmosphere. The sequel is moving closer to full survival horror, with combat, resource management, and exploration taking a much larger role.

Investigation is still part of the game, but it is no longer the main loop. Instead, it works as an optional layer that can reward players with upgrades, secrets, puzzles, and extra lore.

The game is set in a flooded version of 1920s Arkham, shaped by Lovecraftian horror. Most of the city’s people are gone, and the streets are filled with cult activity, rituals, and strange creatures. Players control Calvin Rafferty, an occult adventurer trying to save his girlfriend Faye after a failed dreaming ritual leaves her trapped in a mysterious sleep.

Travel will take place both on foot and by boat as Calvin moves through the ruined city.

Combat will use 1920s weapons, including firearms and melee tools. The main enemies include the Slither, eldritch creatures that can possess and reanimate the dead. Since this is now a survival horror game, resources will be limited, and inventory choices will matter.

The Sinking City 2 was funded through Kickstarter, raising more than €554,000. Its stretch goals included expanded investigations, more Slither monster types, a new Shoggoth enemy, a secret area connected to the first game, and more secrets and puzzles.

The game was originally expected earlier, but Frogwares delayed it because of the ongoing war’s impact on the Ukrainian studio and because of the shift in gameplay direction.

The result sounds like a darker and more focused sequel. Players who liked the investigation side of the first game may need to adjust expectations, but the new survival horror direction could give The Sinking City 2 a clearer identity when it arrives next summer.
