Take Two Interactive is preparing more than Grand Theft Auto 6 for the years ahead. The company has confirmed that it plans to release six remakes, remasters, or platform extensions across fiscal years 2028 and 2029.
The detail came from Take Two president Karl Slatoff during the company’s fiscal earnings call. The six projects are separate from the publisher’s other future plans, which include three new core IPs and seven sequels.
The list could include Max Payne, Red Dead Redemption, GTA 6 ports, or unannounced projects
Take Two did not name the six projects, so there is room for speculation. The most obvious candidate is Max Payne 1 and 2 Remake, which is being developed by Remedy Entertainment in partnership with Rockstar Games. That project has already been announced, making it one of the safest guesses for Take Two’s remake and remaster pipeline.
Red Dead Redemption is another possible name, though nothing is confirmed. The first game has already returned on newer platforms in recent years, but Take Two could still bring it to more systems later. Fans have also waited for a proper Red Dead Redemption 2 remaster, although that remains unannounced.
| Category | Possible examples |
|---|---|
| Confirmed or likely project | Max Payne 1 and 2 Remake |
| Possible remaster candidate | Red Dead Redemption 2 |
| Possible platform extension | GTA 6 on PC, next generation consoles, or Project Helix |
| Other Take Two projects | Judas, Project ETHOS, NBA 2K27, PGA Tour 2K27, WWE 2K27 |
The phrase “platform extensions” is important because it may not mean full remakes or remasters in every case. A platform extension can simply mean bringing an existing or upcoming game to another system. That could include a PC version of Grand Theft Auto 6, a future PS6 version, an Xbox next generation release, or a version connected to Microsoft’s rumored Project Helix plans.
This makes the number less clear than it looks. Six projects sounds like a lot, but some of them may be ports rather than major rebuilt releases. Still, Take Two’s catalog gives it plenty of options. Rockstar alone has several older games that fans would like to see updated, while 2K also has older franchises that could return through remasters or modern ports.
For now, GTA 6 remains Take Two’s biggest near term release, and that is unlikely to change. The scale of that launch will dominate the company’s calendar. But the earnings call shows that Take Two is already planning a longer release pipeline beyond Rockstar’s next open world game.

The timing also makes sense. Fiscal years 2028 and 2029 would give Take Two space to follow GTA 6 with additional catalog releases, new sequels, and updated versions of older games. Remasters and platform extensions can help fill gaps between major original releases while also bringing older games to new audiences.
The main question is how ambitious these projects will be. A full remake like Max Payne 1 and 2 is very different from a basic platform port. Fans will be watching closely to see whether Take Two uses this pipeline to deliver meaningful upgrades or simply move existing games to more devices.
For now, the company has only confirmed the number. Six remakes, remasters, or platform extensions are planned for fiscal years 2028 and 2029, but the names are still under wraps.
