Unknown Worlds says it is still working with Krafton on Subnautica 2, even after Krafton’s name was removed from the game’s Steam and Xbox store listings. The change led many fans to think the two companies were cutting ties, but the developer says that is not the case.
Lead designer Anthony Gallegos told Eurogamer that Subnautica 2 is being co published with Krafton. Creative media producer Scott MacDonald also said Krafton is still helping with promotional material and the game’s launch. A Krafton representative was reportedly present during the interview and agreed with those comments.
The partnership is still active, but the store page change remains unexplained
The confusion comes after a long dispute between Unknown Worlds leadership and Krafton. In 2025, Krafton delayed Subnautica 2 into 2026 and removed the studio’s founders and CEO Ted Gill. The founders argued the game was ready for Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and Xbox Game Pass, while fans suspected Krafton wanted to avoid a $250 million bonus tied to a 2025 launch.
A lawsuit followed. Krafton argued that the delay was needed and claimed the founders were negligent in development. A judge later sided with Unknown Worlds, ordering Krafton to reinstate Ted Gill, give him control over the release date, and keep the $250 million bonus offer open through 2026.
| Subnautica 2 detail | Current status |
|---|---|
| Developer | Unknown Worlds |
| Publisher relationship | Still co publishing with Krafton |
| Store page issue | Krafton name removed, reason unclear |
| Early Access launch | May 14 |
| Platforms | Xbox Series X |
| Price | $29.99 in Early Access |
The developer’s comments clear up the biggest concern: Krafton is still involved. What they do not explain is why Krafton’s name disappeared from the store listings in the first place. MacDonald suggested it may have been something that “just happened,” but that answer leaves room for questions given the timing of the legal fight.

For players, the practical news is better. Subnautica 2 is still set to launch in Early Access on May 14 across Xbox, PC, and Game Pass. The Early Access version will cost $29.99, though the final full release may cost more later.
After a year of delays, legal tension, and publisher confusion, the important part is that the game is finally close. Unknown Worlds and Krafton may still have unresolved business behind the scenes, but both sides appear to be working together to get Subnautica 2 out the door.
