Subnautica 2 early access can feel overwhelming, but a few smart habits make the ocean easier to survive

Subnautica 2 is now available in early access, and many players are already learning that its alien ocean can be confusing in the first few hours. The game gives you a huge underwater world, survival systems, crafting, exploration, dangerous creatures, and base building almost immediately, so knowing what to focus on early can make the experience much smoother.

This is not repeated news. It connects to earlier Subnautica 2 coverage about sales and early access success, but this one is a practical tips guide for new players.

Your first priority should be survival tools, safe water, and smart base placement

The first major tip is to get the Digestion Adaptation as soon as possible. Early in the game, you should head north northwest at around 345 degrees, roughly 150 meters from the Lifepod, to find the Angel Comb. This gives you the adaptation needed to digest local marine life. You should also collect Water Slugs along the way so you can craft safe drinking water at the Lifepod’s Fabricator.

TipWhy it matters
Get Digestion Adaptation earlyLets you eat local marine life
Scan everythingHelps unlock resources and information
Build near a currentMakes Hydroelectric Turbines useful
Avoid building too close to the groundLeaves space for a Tadpole dock
Unlock Repair Tool before TadpoleKeeps your vehicle alive
Carry two Air BladdersGives extra emergency breathing time
Use Sonic ResonatorHelps deal with predators
Place BeaconsMakes important areas easier to revisit
Use every BiobedUpgrades endurance and inventory

After that, the Scanner should become one of your most important tools. Once you build it, keep it with you and scan everything you can. Scanning is not only for lore. It helps you understand the world, unlock blueprints, and later makes it easier to track resources once you can build a Scanner Station.

Base building also needs planning. Solar power works at first, but it will not be enough once you start adding more equipment such as a Processor, Biobed, and Battery Terminal. Building near a current is useful because you can later use Hydroelectric Turbines and Power Transmitters to keep your base running at night.

You should also avoid placing your base too close to the ground. That may not seem important early, but it matters once you build the Tadpole vehicle. You will want room for a proper dock, and building too low can make that harder or impossible without redesigning your base.

Before crafting the Tadpole, unlock the Repair Tool. The Tadpole is useful, but it can take damage from impacts and aggressive creatures. Even small bumps can build up over time, so having a Repair Tool ready makes vehicle exploration much safer.

Air Bladders are also worth carrying in pairs. One can save you when oxygen runs low, but two gives you more breathing room when exploring caves, ruins, or deeper areas. They are useful both early and later in the game.

For danger, the Sonic Resonator is one of the best tools you can carry. It helps push away or distract predators, giving you a chance to escape or reach your Tadpole. It is not a perfect solution, and Unknown Worlds has already said predator mitigation needs improvement, but it remains one of the most useful defensive tools in early access.

Beacons are another simple but important habit. Subnautica 2 does not always guide you to every useful location, and it is easy to lose track of resource spots or ruins. Once you can craft your own Beacons, place them near areas you want to revisit and label them clearly.

Finally, do not ignore Biobeds in abandoned habitats. Some Biobeds include a “Use Biobed” prompt, and using them upgrades your endurance and inventory. It is easy to miss, but it is one of the most important upgrade systems in the early access version.

Subnautica 2 is still in early access, so some systems may change over time. But these tips should make the opening hours easier. Focus on food, water, scanning, power planning, safe base placement, and emergency tools first. Once those basics are covered, the alien ocean becomes much easier to explore.
