Steam Achievement Leak Exposes Unreleased Games and Potential Story Spoilers

A new Steam data leak appears to have exposed achievement lists for dozens of unreleased games, including several titles that have not yet been officially announced.

The issue reportedly surfaced after Steam achievement tracking services suddenly gained access to data that should have remained private. Because achievements often contain descriptions tied to missions, characters, locations, and story events, some of the leaked information may also reveal spoilers for games that are still months or years away from release.

The affected list includes major upcoming projects such as Persona 6, Kingdom Hearts IV, Fable, Gears of War: E Day, CONTROL Resonant, METRO 2039, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, and Final Fantasy Resonance. Several apparently unannounced projects also appeared in the data.

Private achievement data may have become visible through Steam's API

The leak appears to be connected to a change or error in Steam's backend following its regular maintenance period.

The owner of achievement tracking service Exophase said that a number of games with private achievement data suddenly became accessible through Steam's API. Some entries reportedly appeared without proper game names, leaving only their Steam App IDs visible.

That pattern suggests the information was not intentionally published by individual developers.

There is currently no indication that Valve deliberately made the data public, and the exact technical cause has not been confirmed.

Achievement descriptions create a spoiler risk

Achievement leaks can reveal more than game names.

Story driven games commonly award achievements after major missions, boss battles, endings, character encounters, or important discoveries. If those descriptions become accessible before release, they can expose narrative details even when no gameplay footage or official story information has been released.

For that reason, anyone trying to avoid spoilers for upcoming games may want to be cautious when browsing achievement databases or social media discussions related to the leak.

The incident follows another recent Steam related data exposure involving roughly 12TB of older internal Valve and third party files. The two incidents appear separate, but both have drawn attention to how unintended backend access can expose material that developers expected to remain private.
