Respawn Entertainment is reportedly making significant progress on Star Wars Jedi 3, with the next installment in Cal Kestis' story potentially receiving an official reveal in the coming months.
According to gaming industry journalist Jason Schreier, the third entry is already far into development, suggesting that Electronic Arts and Respawn may be preparing to announce it soon.
The game is expected to conclude the storyline that began with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order in 2019 and continued with Star Wars Jedi: Survivor in 2023.
Although a 2027 release has been discussed in previous leaks, Electronic Arts has not confirmed a launch window or announced when the game will be shown publicly.
Star Wars Jedi 3 Could Be Announced Before the End of 2026
The latest development update follows reports about Electronic Arts' decision to close BioWare and cancel its upcoming Mass Effect project.
According to those reports, EA chose to prioritize another Star Wars game, reportedly Star Wars Battlefront 3, over continued investment in Mass Effect.
However, Star Wars Jedi 3 was reportedly unaffected by that decision because its development had already progressed substantially.
Respawn's work on the third installment was officially acknowledged in September 2024, when EA Entertainment president Laura Miele confirmed that the studio was developing the concluding chapter of the Jedi series.
The latest information suggests that development has advanced considerably since that announcement.
Previous rumors indicated that the game could be revealed before the end of 2026, potentially during The Game Awards on December 10.
However, neither Respawn nor EA has confirmed that the game will appear at the event.
A release sometime in 2027 has also been suggested, but that remains speculation rather than an official schedule.
Cal Kestis Could Be Older in the Final Chapter
Star Wars Jedi 3 is expected to continue the story of Cal Kestis, the Jedi survivor introduced in Fallen Order.
The previous games followed Cal as he attempted to survive the aftermath of Order 66 while confronting the growing influence of the Galactic Empire.

Earlier reports suggested that the next game could feature an older version of Cal, potentially indicating another significant passage of time between installments.
However, Respawn has not confirmed a time jump or revealed any official story details.
The studio has also not disclosed which planets, characters, Force abilities, or combat mechanics will appear in the third game.
Given that the installment is intended to conclude Cal's story, its narrative direction will likely be an important part of the eventual reveal.
PC Performance Will Be an Important Concern
Beyond its story, the third installment will face expectations regarding technical performance.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor experienced significant optimization problems when it launched in April 2023.
PC players reported shader compilation stuttering, traversal related performance issues, and inconsistent frame rates.
Although Respawn released multiple updates, some technical problems reportedly persisted long after launch.
These issues could influence expectations for Star Wars Jedi 3, particularly among PC players hoping for a smoother experience.
Respawn has not yet confirmed the engine, system requirements, or technical improvements planned for the next installment.
With development reportedly at an advanced stage, an official announcement could provide more information about the game's platforms, gameplay, and release plans.
For now, the clearest confirmed detail is that Respawn is developing the final chapter of Cal Kestis' Jedi trilogy. The reported development progress and potential 2027 release remain encouraging but unofficial indications of when players might experience the sequel.
