Sony raises PlayStation Plus prices for new subscribers in select regions

Sony is raising PlayStation Plus prices again, with new and returning subscribers in select regions set to pay more from May 20. The company says the change is due to “ongoing market conditions,” but it did not give a detailed explanation.

The price hike affects one month and three month PlayStation Plus plans. The monthly plan is going up by $1, while the three month plan is increasing by $3.

Sony says the new starting prices will be $10.99 in the US, €9.99 in Europe, and £7.99 in the UK for one month of PlayStation Plus. The three month plan will start at $27.99, €27.99, and £21.99.

The price change does not apply to current subscribers in most regions. However, Sony says current subscribers in India and Turkey will also be affected by the increase. That makes the change more painful in those two markets, where existing customers will not be protected from the new pricing.

PlayStation Plus remains required for online multiplayer on PS4 and PS5 for most paid games. The subscription also includes monthly games, PlayStation Store discounts, cloud saves, and extra benefits depending on the tier.

The timing may frustrate some PlayStation owners because it comes only a few months after Sony increased PS5 console prices by up to $150 in some markets. At the time, Sony also blamed wider economic pressure and global market conditions.

Studio changesSony shut down Bluepoint and Dark Outlaw Games in 2025

Sony has also gone through other cost cutting and business changes this year. The company has shut down two studios in 2025, including Bluepoint, known for Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus remakes, and Dark Outlaw Games, a live service focused studio.

For players, the new PlayStation Plus increase is not huge month to month, but it adds to a wider pattern of rising costs across gaming. Consoles, subscriptions, accessories, and games have all become more expensive in recent years.

The main concern is value. If Sony keeps raising prices, PlayStation Plus will need to keep offering strong monthly games, stable online services, and meaningful benefits across its tiers. Otherwise, even small price increases can feel harder to justify.
