Shadow of the Road Delayed to March 2027 for More Combat and Technical Polish

Shadow of the Road has been delayed from November 12, 2026, to March 10, 2027, giving developer Another Angle Games additional time to improve the upcoming tactical CRPG before launch.

The game will initially release on PC through Steam, the Epic Games Store and GOG. No Xbox, PlayStation or Nintendo Switch versions have been announced.

Publisher Owlcat Games says the extra development time will be used to polish the turn based combat system, improve character progression and resolve remaining technical issues.

Players will not be left without updates during the delay. More gameplay videos and development information are planned ahead of the new launch date.

Shadow of the Road Moves Out of a Crowded November

The original November 12 release date would have placed Shadow of the Road in a particularly busy period for major game launches.

Moving the game to March 2027 gives the developers more time to refine it while also separating the release from several larger titles expected around the same period.

The delay is primarily being presented as a development decision rather than a scheduling move.

According to the announcement, the team wants additional time to make sure the game's major systems are in better condition before release.

Alternate 1860s Japan Mixes Samurai, Demons and Machinery

Shadow of the Road takes place in an alternate version of 1860s Japan during a period of war.

Its setting mixes historical influences with supernatural creatures and steampunk technology. Players travel across the country while fighting demons, mechanical enemies and other threats through turn based battles.

The party includes samurai and characters with supernatural abilities, with recruitment forming an important part of the broader CRPG structure.

Dialogue choices also influence how the story develops.

One unusual system allows players to decide which party member speaks during conversations. Different characters can affect interactions in different ways, giving party composition a role outside combat as well.

That combination of tactical battles, character progression and dialogue choices gives the game a structure aimed heavily at traditional CRPG players.

More Time Will Be Spent on Combat and Progression

The developers specifically identified combat and character progression as areas receiving additional work.

Tactical combat is one of the game's central systems, so another four months of development could allow the team to refine balance, encounters and general responsiveness.

Technical problems are also being addressed before release.

Rather than launching in November and relying on major updates afterward, the current plan is to use the delay to improve the release build itself.

Owlcat Games says further updates will show the improvements being made during the extended development period.

No Console Release Has Been Announced

Shadow of the Road remains a PC only release for now.

There is currently no confirmation of an Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 edition. Xbox Play Anywhere support has also not been announced.

That could change later, but the current launch plans are limited to PC storefronts.

The source text contains one later reference to a March 10, 2026 launch, but this conflicts with the formal delay announcement and the stated move from November 2026. The announced new release date is March 10, 2027.

For now, the extra development period gives Another Angle Games more time to improve one of the project's most important elements before players enter its alternate version of war torn Japan.
