Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 Pre Orders Add Early Access to DMZ Alongside the Campaign

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will give pre order customers early access to its returning DMZ mode, adding another major incentive before the game's full launch on October 23, 2026.

Campaign early access had already been confirmed for pre purchase customers, and Activision has now added DMZ to the list. Players who buy either the Standard Edition or Vault Edition in advance will be able to enter the extraction mode several days before the complete game becomes available.

The PC version will begin preloading on October 15. Campaign early access starts on October 16, while DMZ early access follows on October 20.

DMZ Returns With 20 Squads and a Large Extraction Map

DMZ originally appeared in Modern Warfare II and returns in Modern Warfare 4 as an extraction focused mode built around looting, completing objectives and getting out of the map safely.

Matches will support 20 squads, with each squad containing up to three players.

Players can search the environment for equipment, complete story missions and other objectives, and attempt to extract with the items they collect. Successfully escaping allows those items to be kept, sold or used during later runs.

The mode mixes computer controlled opponents with enemy players, creating additional risk as squads spend more time searching the map.

Staying longer can produce better rewards, but it also increases the chance of running into other teams or attracting attention through combat.

New Forward Operating Base Adds Progression Between Runs

Modern Warfare 4 also expands DMZ with a new Forward Operating Base, or FOB.

The FOB acts as the player's main location between extraction runs.

From there, you will be able to customize your character, manage collected loot, craft equipment and select new objectives.

The base can also be expanded as you progress and level up.

This gives the new version of DMZ a stronger progression structure outside individual matches. Instead of treating every deployment as a completely isolated session, the FOB provides a persistent place where your collected resources and upgrades can affect later runs.

Crafting and inventory management should also make extraction decisions more important because equipment brought back successfully can contribute to future preparation.

Both Standard and Vault Editions Include Early Access

The DMZ early access benefit is not limited to the more expensive Vault Edition.

Both the Standard Edition and Vault Edition include campaign advanced access and early entry to DMZ when pre ordered.

That means players interested mainly in the campaign or extraction mode do not need to purchase the highest priced version just to gain access before launch.

The campaign opens seven days before the full release, while DMZ becomes available three days before launch.

Modern Warfare 4 Launches Across PC, Xbox, PlayStation and Switch 2

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23, 2026.

The game will be available on PC through Steam, Xbox and Battle.net, alongside Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2.

The return of DMZ gives Modern Warfare 4 another major mode alongside its campaign and traditional multiplayer.

With pre order customers able to start the campaign on October 16 and DMZ on October 20, much of the game's content will be playable before the official October 23 release date.
