Samsung S3 S32GF Is $141.56 at Amazon, Billed as High Resolution at 1080p

Samsung's 27-inch S3 S32GF is $141.56 at Amazon, under a listing title that calls it a High Resolution Monitor. Samsung's own page for the same model code, LS27F320GANXZA, puts the panel at 1,920 by 1,080 and names it the Essential Monitor S3 S32GF Full HD 120Hz.

Samsung files it under Full HD 1080p. The phrase "high resolution" appears six times in that page's code, and every instance is a navigation link to a different Samsung product line.

The saving is $8.47, or 5.6% off a $150.03 anchor. That is not the story here either.

What is on offer is a flat 27-inch IPS panel at up to 120Hz, with 5ms grey-to-grey response and two HDMI 1.4 inputs. Samsung lists no FreeSync and no G-Sync for it.

That matters because of what sits next to it. Samsung's own store sells two 27-inch 1080p monitors at $129.99 right now, and one of them runs at 180Hz.

Where Samsung actually uses the words high resolution

Samsung's US store runs a category built around the phrase. Its page title reads "High Resolution Monitors | ViewFinity Monitors | Samsung USA", and the heading on the page is "ViewFinity High Resolution Monitors".

Samsung describes that category as its "full range of Samsung View Finity High Resolution monitors in QHD, 4K, 5K and more". Every model listed there is a ViewFinity at UWQHD or above.

The cheapest is the 32-inch ViewFinity S7 S70H at $329.99. Several of those product names end in the words "High Resolution Monitor", which is how Samsung uses the label.

The same Samsung page defines 1920x1080 as the resolution "commonly referred to as 1080p or Full HD", and adds that "higher resolution means more pixels". Wherever the Amazon title came from, it is not Samsung's name for this monitor.

Samsung S3 S32GF specifications

Samsung's spec sheet for the model code on the listing fills in the rows the retail bullets skip.

The bullets promise more than the spec sheet lists

One listing bullet is headed "CONNECT TO MORE" and offers to "plug devices straight into your monitor for increased flexibility". Samsung's spec sheet lists no USB ports, no USB hub, no USB-C, no headphone output and no speakers.

Samsung's own rear diagram backs that up. It labels three connectors in total: power, HDMI IN 1 and HDMI IN 2.

Another bullet promises a competitive edge from optimizable game settings. The spec sheet answers FreeSync with No and G-Sync with No, so a tearing-free lock to a graphics card is not among them.

The stand is the other thin spot. Samsung records its type as SIMPLE, with tilt from minus 2 to 21 degrees and no height, swivel or pivot figure at all.

Two Samsung 1080p panels cost $11.57 less

The 27-inch Odyssey G3 G30D is $129.99 at Amazon, and the product data embedded in Samsung's own store page gives the identical $129.99 against a $229.99 list, in stock. It runs 180Hz, adds AMD FreeSync and comes on a stand with height, swivel and pivot.

Digital Citizen looked at that monitor at $129.99 a day earlier, including what 1,080 lines look like stretched across 27 inches. The S32GF spreads the same grid over the same diagonal.

Samsung's other 27-inch S3, the S30GD, is also $129.99 on Samsung's store. It drops to 100Hz but keeps the IPS panel.

Acer CE270K, 26.5-inch4K QD-OLED120Hz$599.99 at Amazon

The Acer CE270K at $599.99 is in the table as the other end of the scale, since it is the 4K panel a High Resolution label would fit. A nearer step up is the GIGABYTE M27Q2, a 27-inch 1440p panel that has fallen to $159.99.

What neither store publishes about the S32GF

Samsung's US store does not list the S32GF in its Full HD 1080p monitor category, and no US product page for the model code turned up. That leaves the $150.03 anchor with no Samsung figure to check it against.

It is not the first Samsung panel to sell well at Amazon while missing from Samsung's shelves. The 34-inch Odyssey G5 at $249.99 is a monitor Samsung no longer sells directly.

Several figures are missing from the spec sheet too. There is no DisplayHDR tier, no sRGB or DCI-P3 coverage number beyond the 72% NTSC line, no uniformity claim and no stated height adjustment.

Amazon lists the monitor in stock and sold by Amazon itself, with no end date on the price. Samsung's store prices move the same way, so both figures are the ones showing at the time of writing.
