Samsung expands Odyssey G8 lineup with 6K, 5K, and 4K OLED gaming monitors

Samsung has expanded its Odyssey G8 gaming monitor lineup with three new high end OLED models, including what it calls the world’s first 6K OLED gaming monitor. The new range includes 6K at 165Hz, 5K at 180Hz, and 4K at 240Hz options, all using Samsung’s fourth generation OLED Penta Tandem panel technology.

The headline model is the Odyssey G8 G80HS, a 6K monitor with a 6144 x 3456 resolution. Samsung says it can run at 6K 165Hz or switch to a 3K 330Hz mode. That dual mode setup gives the display two clear uses. The 6K mode is aimed at maximum image sharpness, while the 3K mode is better suited for smoother competitive gaming.

Samsung’s new OLED monitors are built for future GPUs as much as current gaming PCs

The 6K model is likely ahead of what many gaming PCs can handle today. Even top end graphics cards can struggle at 5K in demanding modern games, so pushing 6K at high frame rates will be difficult outside lighter or competitive titles. That makes the 3K 330Hz mode important because it gives gamers a more realistic way to use the monitor for high refresh rate play.

Samsung is also adding the Odyssey G8 G80HF, a 5K OLED model with a 180Hz refresh rate. It also includes a second 1440p 360Hz mode, which makes it useful for both visual quality and fast paced gaming. The third model is the Odyssey G8 G80SH, which comes in 27 inch and 32 inch sizes with 4K resolution at 240Hz.

All three monitors use Samsung’s fourth generation OLED Penta Tandem panels, which are designed to improve efficiency, brightness, and durability. They also include DisplayPort 2.1 for high bandwidth video output, along with AMD FreeSync Premium, Nvidia G Sync compatibility, and HDR10 Plus Gaming certification.

Samsung has not shared pricing yet, but the new Odyssey G8 monitors are already available for orders alongside new Odyssey G7 and ViewFinity S8 models. The lineup shows Samsung pushing gaming displays beyond today’s common 4K standard, though the most advanced models will need very powerful future hardware to show their full value.
