ASUS lists the ROG Xbox Ally X20 at $1,299.99 on its own US store and marks it out of stock, with a Notify me alert where the cart button sits. The shortage behind the $2,000 resale asks now circulating is narrower than it looks, because the two cheaper handhelds in the same line are in stock on that same store today.

The X20 is the 20th anniversary version of the handheld. ASUS lists a 7.4-inch 1080p OLED at 120Hz, an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme, 24GB of LPDDR5X and a 1TB SSD, in a 756-gram body with an 80Wh battery.
What the ASUS store shows today
ASUS prices the standalone X20 at $1,299.99 and the 20th Anniversary Bundle at $2,499.99. Both pages carry an out-of-stock flag and a Notify me button.
The ROG Xbox Ally sits on the same store at $599.99 with an Add to Cart button. The ROG Xbox Ally X sits at $999.99, also in stock.
So the outage covers two SKUs rather than the Ally line. The X20 and its bundle sold out within days of the October 15 launch, while the cheaper Ally has stayed available at list price.
The bundle adds the ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 AR glasses, a dbrand case and a Pelican case. ASUS sells those glasses separately for $799.99, so the bundle costs about $400 more than the handheld and the glasses bought on their own.

The $2,000 figure is an asking price, not a market price
The resale prices in circulation come from individual listings on an auction marketplace. One has been reported at $2,000 for an open-box unit, another above $4,000 for the bundle.
Neither listing could be checked for this article. The marketplace returned an error page for both item URLs and for its search path, so the asking price, the condition and the number of units behind each listing are unconfirmed.
A handful of asks is not a market price. No listing count, completed sale or unit quantity has been published alongside any of those figures.
That gap matters here. A seller can ask $2,000 and never find a buyer, and one listing covering several units reads very differently from a prevailing price.
Amazon does not carry the X20 at any price
Five searches for the X20 and its bundle returned no Amazon listing for the handheld itself. Nothing new, nothing used, nothing from Amazon or from a marketplace seller.
Every X20 result is a third-party accessory sold for fitment, such as cases, screen protectors and docks. The resale activity is confined to auction venues rather than the mainstream retail channel.
The markups that do exist on Amazon sit on the older model. A marketplace seller called GreatPriceTech holds the buy box on the 16GB/512GB ROG Xbox Ally at $734.99, which is $135 above the $599.99 ASUS charges for the same configuration.
The 1TB version from that seller is $949.99. That price is not new. The same listing carried the same $949.99 from the same seller on September 27, so the markup predates the X20 sellout and did not move with it.
What ASUS and Microsoft have not said
Neither company has published anything about X20 stock levels. ASUS's October 15 availability release gives the $1,299 and $2,499 prices and calls the handheld a special edition for the brand's 20th anniversary.
That release states no production quantity, names no retailer and says nothing about supply or restocks. Microsoft's own announcement the same day is equally silent on stock.
Microsoft's Xbox product page carries the X20 with a New badge but publishes no price at all, only a Check availability button. Any explanation of why the X20 ran out is therefore someone else's, not either company's.
A claim that open-box units are also unavailable at a large US retailer could not be verified, because that retailer's product pages would not load. ASUS has published no restock date, and the Notify me alert carries no timing of any kind. Store prices and stock can change at any point.
