Resident Evil Requiem gets a surprise demo on every platform, but save progress will not transfer

Capcom has released a free Resident Evil Requiem demo across all platforms, giving more players a chance to try the game before buying it. The demo is available on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch 2. It covers part of the game’s early stages, but there is one important limit: save data from the demo will not carry over to the full game.

That means anyone who plays the demo and later buys Resident Evil Requiem will need to replay the same section again. It is a small inconvenience, but it matters for people who like demos that let them continue from where they stopped. Capcom has used different demo styles for Resident Evil games over the years, so this approach is not unusual, but it is worth knowing before starting.

Capcom may be using the demo to reach players who skipped the game at launch

Resident Evil fans are used to pre launch demos, but Requiem’s demo arrived later than usual. Resident Evil 2 Remake had its 1 Shot Demo two weeks before release in 2019. Resident Evil Village used a staged rollout before launch in 2021, first on PlayStation and later on all platforms. Resident Evil 4 Remake received its Chainsaw Demo around two weeks before the full game arrived in 2023.

Resident Evil Requiem followed a different path. Capcom waited around three months after launch before releasing the demo. Before release, producer Masato Kumazawa said the team wanted to focus on the full game. The report suggests the delayed demo may be tied to Requiem’s strong sales performance. The game reportedly broke series records and sold more than six million units as of March 16, meaning many core fans likely bought it already.

Save transfer in Requiem demoNot supported

The timing suggests Capcom may now be trying to bring in people who were interested but not ready to buy. A post launch demo can work well for that audience, especially if the full game already has reviews, community reactions, and sales momentum behind it.

Capcom is also continuing to support Resident Evil Requiem beyond the demo. The studio is working on a story expansion, and it has already released the free bonus mode called LEON MUST DIE FOREVER. That mode adds roguelike style twists and gives existing players another reason to return.

The new demo is useful for anyone still unsure about Resident Evil Requiem. It gives players a direct look at the game’s tone, early pacing, visuals, and controls without requiring a purchase. The lack of save transfer is disappointing, but the broader message is clear. Capcom is giving latecomers a lower risk way to try one of its biggest recent Resident Evil releases.
