Resident Evil Requiem may have been more ambitious earlier in development, based on details found in the game’s files.
Dataminers have reportedly uncovered several unused systems and mechanics that suggest CAPCOM once planned more investigation gameplay, a merchant style character, side missions, and stronger connections between the Leon and Grace sections.
The findings were shared by Dusk Golem, who said the unused data includes tutorial screens for a murder investigation sequence, a scrapped weapon customization screen with a merchant type character in the background, and side mission elements similar to Resident Evil 4.
There are also signs that Leon may have had access to Grace’s Blood Collector. According to the datamine, Leon could have used blood to temporarily improve his abilities and craft certain items. An overdose system also appears to have been planned.

One of the more interesting discoveries is a scrapped map feature that would show Leon and Grace at the same time. That suggests CAPCOM may have considered a version of the game where both campaigns interacted more directly. The final game still has small moments where their stories connect, but the unused map system points to something broader.
Here is what was reportedly found:
| Cut feature | What it suggests |
|---|---|
| Merchant type character | Weapon customization may have been planned |
| Murder investigation tutorials | Grace may have had deeper detective gameplay |
| Side missions | Optional tasks similar to Resident Evil 4 may have existed |
| Bike repair tutorial | Leon may have had a slower travel or repair sequence |
| Shared Leon and Grace map | The two campaigns may have connected more directly |
| Blood Collector use for Leon | Leon may have crafted items or boosted abilities with blood |
| Overdose mechanic | Blood based upgrades may have carried risks |
| Seizure mechanic | Leon may have had an extra challenge on higher difficulty |
| Professional difficulty | A harder mode may have been planned or renamed |
Some of these cuts are easy to understand. Investigation systems and bike repair could have slowed the pacing, especially if CAPCOM wanted Resident Evil Requiem to stay tense and focused. Survival horror often depends on rhythm, and too many slower systems can weaken that pressure.
Other cuts sound like missed opportunities. The idea of Leon using Grace’s Blood Collector could have added another layer to combat and resource management. A map showing both protagonists could also have made the two campaigns feel more connected, rather than mostly separate.
Datamines do not always show how finished or important a feature was. Some ideas may have been early tests, while others may have been removed because they did not fit the final design. Still, the findings give a useful look at how much Resident Evil Requiem may have changed before release.
Even with the cuts, the final game still appears to have landed well with many survival horror fans. The unused content mostly shows that CAPCOM explored several directions before settling on the version players received.
