Valve has released Proton 11.0 2 as the latest stable update for its Windows compatibility layer on SteamOS and Linux. The update adds support for several previously problematic games while fixing regressions and launch issues across a much larger list of titles.
For Steam Deck owners, some of the most useful fixes affect recent games such as Marvel Rivals, Diablo IV, ARC Raiders, Helldivers 2, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, and Forza Horizon 4 through 6. The release also updates major Proton components including DXVK, VKD3D Proton, FEX, Wine Mono, and DXVK NVAPI.
If Proton 11 is already installed, the new version should appear automatically in your download queue. It can also be installed manually through Steam by searching for Proton 11.
Nine More Games Are Now Playable
Proton 11.0 2 officially adds support for nine more games. The list includes older releases, indie titles, and software that previously had compatibility problems under Linux.
| Newly playable game | Proton 11.0 2 status |
|---|---|
| AsteroidsHD | Now playable |
| Heroes of the Three Kingdoms 7 | Now playable |
| Konkan Coast Pirate Solutions | Now playable |
| Otherworld Legends | Now playable |
| Plain Sight | Now playable |
| Portal Worlds | Now playable |
| SMILE GAME BUILDER | Now playable |
| Tetrageddon Games | Now playable |
| Warhammer: Dark Omen Classic | Now playable |
The update also repairs several problems introduced specifically by Proton 11. Command and Conquer titles should once again detect custom Steam Workshop levels, while Terraria should no longer perform worse than it did with Proton 10.

Arma 3 Workshop mods should stop unnecessarily updating every time the game launches. Natural Selection 2 can connect to servers again, and Source SDK 2007 and Source SDK 2013 Singleplayer should correctly locate gameinfo.txt.
Resident Evil 2 also receives a fix for low resolution fullscreen behavior on some high resolution displays. Homeworld 2 Classic and SHOGUN: Total War receive improvements related to switching away from the game and returning with Alt Tab.
Recent Game Updates Should Cause Fewer Problems
A large part of Proton 11.0 2 focuses on games that recently stopped working after their own updates.
Diablo IV, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, ARC Raiders, Helldivers 2, and Marvel Rivals all receive compatibility fixes. Marvel Rivals had been crashing after a recent game update, while ARC Raiders had become unplayable for some players.
The update also addresses black screen problems in Forza Horizon 4, Forza Horizon 5, and Forza Horizon 6 on recent SteamOS versions. Forza Horizon 6 should no longer automatically close after suspending and resuming the system.
Other notable fixes include a memory leak in HITMAN World of Assassination, a crash in DIRT 5 on processors with hybrid cores, and freezing in Mirror's Edge Catalyst on systems without NVIDIA graphics because of NVAPI detection.
Rocket League receives several fixes as well. Reconnected DualShock 4 and DualSense controllers should no longer be detected as extra devices, while the game should launch correctly when Steam is configured with a non English locale. The same locale related fix also applies to The Division 2 and Squad.
Proton 11.0 2 Improves Audio, Video and Rendering
Valve has also addressed smaller issues affecting sound, video playback, graphics, and interface behavior.
Portal 2 receives a fix for audio problems on 7.1 speaker setups. Dragon Quest Builders should no longer experience audio issues after waking the device from suspend, while Legend of Mana gets improved intro video playback.
Resident Evil 0 HD Remaster receives a fix for distorted pre rendered backgrounds. Call of Duty from 2003 should display the correct colors in its main menu, while No Limits 2 Roller Coaster Simulation receives a rendering correction for NVIDIA GPUs running under Wayland.
Path of Exile also gets a specific crash fix related to certain text appearing in chat.
Controller hotplug reliability has been improved more broadly, which should benefit games beyond those individually listed in the changelog.
Core Proton Components Have Been Updated
Proton 11.0 2 also refreshes several technologies that handle graphics translation, Windows compatibility, and ARM related functionality.
Wine Mono has been updated to version 11.2.0, while FEX moves to the FEX 2607 release. DXVK has been updated to a newer Proton 11 support branch build, and DXVK NVAPI now uses version 0.9.2.
VKD3D Proton has also moved to a newer Proton 11 branch revision, while the separate VKD3D package has been updated to version 2.0.
These component updates are important because Proton compatibility depends on more than individual game fixes. Improvements to graphics translation and Windows API support can help multiple games at once, including titles that are not directly named in the changelog.
With Proton 11.0 2, Valve is continuing to expand the number of Windows games that work reliably on SteamOS while also cleaning up regressions introduced by the previous stable release. For Steam Deck owners, the update is especially useful if recent game patches caused previously working titles to stop launching or develop performance problems.
