Nintendo Switch 2 sales pass 19.86 million, but price hike may slow its second year

Nintendo Switch 2 has reached 19.86 million units sold since launch, giving Nintendo a strong first year for its new hybrid console.

The figure comes from Nintendo’s latest financial results for the fiscal year that ended on March 31, 2026. Switch 2 sales rose by 2.49 million units since Nintendo’s previous update in February, when the console stood at 17.37 million units.

The strong launch helped Nintendo post a major year over year jump in sales. Net sales increased by 98.6 percent, showing how much the Switch 2 has already reshaped the company’s business.

Software sales also show a clear leader. Mario Kart World has now sold 14.70 million units, making it the biggest Switch 2 exclusive so far. That number is helped by Nintendo counting Switch 2 bundles that include Mario Kart World as game sales, but it still shows how important the racer has been to the console’s early success.

Other exclusives are selling at a much lower level. Donkey Kong Bananza has reached 4.52 million units, while Kirby Air Riders is at 1.87 million. Some major titles, including Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Mario Tennis Fever, are not listed among Nintendo’s top selling Switch 2 games, meaning they have not passed Kirby Air Riders yet.

Nintendo’s forecast for the next fiscal year is more cautious. The company expects Switch 2 hardware sales to decline year over year because launch year demand was unusually concentrated. Nintendo also recently confirmed that the Switch 2 price will rise in several markets from September, which could affect sales after the increase takes effect.

The company expects net sales to fall by 11.4 percent in FY27, while ordinary profit is expected to drop by 20.7 percent. Nintendo says that even with the expected decline, it still sees the Switch 2’s second year adoption as solid.

The price hike may create a short term sales boost before September, as people who were waiting may decide to buy the console before it gets more expensive. After that, sales could slow unless Nintendo supports the system with major new games.

That is the key point for Switch 2’s next phase. A strong launch year is already secured. Now Nintendo needs a steady release schedule to keep momentum going. A new 3D Mario, a major Zelda project, or another large exclusive could help offset the higher price and keep Switch 2 sales strong into its second year.
