MSI Claw 8 EX AI Plus brings Intel’s Arc G3 Extreme chip to handheld gaming PCs

MSI has revealed the Claw 8 EX AI Plus ahead of Computex 2026, and it could become one of the first major handheld gaming PCs to show what Intel’s new Arc G3 Extreme chip can really do. The device follows MSI’s earlier Claw models, but this version looks more serious because it uses Intel’s latest handheld focused silicon instead of a standard laptop style chip.

The handheld PC market is in a strange place right now. There are more devices than ever, but prices are also rising fast because memory and storage costs have gone up. Valve’s Steam Deck OLED recently returned with a much higher price, and other premium handhelds are also moving closer to gaming laptop territory. That makes every new device harder to judge until pricing is confirmed.

MSI has not announced the price or release date for the Claw 8 EX AI Plus yet. That is the biggest missing detail. The older MSI Claw 8 AI Plus launched around $1,000, so it would not be surprising if this new model lands somewhere near that range, especially with newer hardware inside.

Intel’s new chip is the main reason to watch this handheld

The MSI Claw 8 EX AI Plus uses Intel’s Arc G3 Extreme processor, which is designed for handheld gaming PCs. That matters because AMD has dominated this market for years through Ryzen Z chips and related APUs. If Intel’s new chip performs well, it could finally give handheld makers a strong alternative.

The rest of the specs also look competitive. The device has an 8 inch touchscreen with a 1920 x 1200 resolution and up to a 120Hz refresh rate. That should give it a sharp display for handheld play, while the higher refresh rate will help with smoother gameplay in lighter or well optimized titles.

MSI is also using hall effect sticks and triggers, which should help reduce the risk of stick drift and improve long term durability. A new high end linear motor is included for haptics, and the device has a redesigned chassis with updated grips. The “Void Purple” color also gives it a more distinctive look than many black or white handhelds.

The Xbox app being shown on the device is also worth noting. It suggests MSI is leaning into the Windows handheld experience and possibly Microsoft’s Xbox focused full screen interface. That could make the device feel more console like, though Windows handhelds still need better software polish overall.

The unanswered questions are performance, battery life, price, and heat. Intel’s Arc G3 Extreme sounds promising on paper, but handheld gaming depends on efficiency as much as raw power. A fast chip is only useful if it can run games smoothly without draining the battery too quickly or forcing the fans to become distracting.

For now, the MSI Claw 8 EX AI Plus looks like one of the more interesting Intel powered handhelds coming in 2026. It gives MSI another chance to prove that the Claw line can compete with Steam Deck, ROG Ally, Legion Go, and other Windows handhelds. The hardware looks promising, but the final price and real world performance will decide whether it becomes a serious contender.
