Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is expanding the Bow with new explosive attacks, faster firing, stronger evasive options, and a Boost Driver move that can knock monsters down.
The latest weapon showcase focuses on how the expansion’s Boost Bracer system changes Bow gameplay. The weapon keeps its ranged identity, but the new mechanics make it more aggressive and give players more ways to stay on the offensive.
Ascendance is planned for 2027 on Xbox Series X and Series S, PlayStation 5, and PC.

Boost Driver Adds an Explosive Counterattack
The Bow receives a new Boost Driver move that works as an Offset attack.
The hunter fires explosive arrows while moving backward, allowing the attack to knock an enemy off balance while also creating distance.
That gives Bow players another defensive option without forcing them to stop attacking.
The move can also be charged for extra damage.
From there, players can transition into other established Bow techniques, including Dragon Piercer and Thousand Dragons.
Dragon Piercer fires a fast, powerful arrow through the target, while Thousand Dragons releases a concentrated burst of arrows at short range.
Connecting these moves to Boost Driver should make Bow combos more flexible.
Boost Gauge Makes Bow Much More Aggressive
Using Boost Driver helps fill the Boost Gauge.
Once that gauge is ready, players can activate it to strengthen the weapon’s attacks and unlock additional abilities.
The boosted state increases firing speed and adds explosive damage to arrows.

That changes the Bow from a more measured ranged weapon into something capable of delivering rapid bursts of heavy damage.
The effect is especially noticeable at shorter ranges, where multiple explosive hits can land in quick succession.
Evasive Movement Is Also Improved
The Boost Bracer does more than increase damage.
Bow users can perform stronger evasive jump movements while the gauge is active.
These jumps are designed to help players avoid incoming attacks without giving up offensive momentum.
That fits the weapon’s existing play style, which depends heavily on positioning, timing, and keeping enough distance from dangerous monsters.
The new movement options should make it easier to reposition while continuing to attack.
Classic Lao Shan Lung Gear Returns
The trailer also shows armor connected to Lao Shan Lung.
The colossal Elder Dragon first appeared in the original Monster Hunter and has returned in several later entries.
Lao Shan Lung is already confirmed for Ascendance, and its classic equipment appears to be returning as a hunting reward.
That gives long time players another reason to revisit the encounter, especially if the fight itself has been redesigned for the new expansion.
The creature has traditionally been known for slow siege style battles, so Ascendance has an opportunity to make the encounter more active than older versions.
Boost Bracer Is Changing All 14 Weapons
The Bow showcase is part of a wider series explaining how Boost Bracer affects every weapon type in Monster Hunter Wilds.
Dual Blades have already been shown receiving faster attacks, stronger aerial options, and new combo routes.
Bow appears to be moving in a different direction, with explosive ammunition, counterattacks, and enhanced mobility defining its upgrades.
That suggests the Boost Bracer system is not applying one universal bonus to every weapon.
Instead, each weapon is getting changes built around its existing strengths.
For Bow players, Ascendance looks set to offer a faster and more offensive version of the weapon while keeping its familiar ranged combat style.
