Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will not launch on Xbox Game Pass this October, but Activision is offering a small discount for longtime Call of Duty players and eligible subscription members. The offer gives 10 percent off the Modern Warfare 4 Vault Edition, although it does not apply to the standard edition of the game.
The decision follows Microsoft’s recent Game Pass changes, which lowered the price of the service but removed day one Call of Duty releases from the subscription. That means Modern Warfare 4 will need to be purchased separately when it launches, even by active Game Pass members.
The discount is part of a loyalty program aimed at players who have owned and played recent Call of Duty titles. The qualifying window stretches from Modern Warfare 2019 through last year’s Black Ops 7. Players who accessed those games through Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus can also qualify, as long as they played one of the eligible titles.
The discount only applies to the more expensive Vault Edition
The catch is that the offer is tied to the Vault Edition, which normally costs $99. With the 10 percent discount, eligible players save about $10. That is better than nothing, but it is clearly aimed at committed Call of Duty fans rather than casual players who only want the campaign or standard multiplayer access.
| Modern Warfare 4 offer | Details |
|---|---|
| Game Pass launch | Not included day one |
| Discount amount | 10 percent |
| Eligible edition | Vault Edition only |
| Standard Vault price | $99 |
| Effective saving | About $10 |
| Eligible players | Owners or players of recent Call of Duty games |
| Game Pass eligibility | Active Ultimate, Premium, and PC members who played qualifying COD titles |
The Vault Edition includes extra multiplayer content and the first BlackCell battle pass for Season 1. That makes it more attractive for players who already spend time in Call of Duty’s multiplayer ecosystem and plan to keep playing through seasonal updates.

For others, the offer may feel limited. A $10 discount on a $99 edition does not help much if someone only wanted the standard version or expected Modern Warfare 4 to be part of Game Pass at launch. It also shows how Microsoft and Activision are trying to keep some subscription value attached to Call of Duty without giving away the newest entry on day one.
There is still a chance Modern Warfare 4 could arrive on Game Pass later, but not at launch. The current expectation is that new Call of Duty games may join the service after a longer gap, possibly a year or more. For now, players who want Modern Warfare 4 in October will need to buy it outright.
Pre orders also include early beta access, which may make the Vault Edition more tempting for competitive players and regular multiplayer fans. But for campaign focused players, waiting for reviews or a sale may be the smarter move.
The loyalty discount is a small compromise. It gives returning players something back, including those who played older Call of Duty entries through Game Pass, but it does not replace the value of a day one subscription release. Modern Warfare 4 is now firmly positioned as a premium launch, with Game Pass offering only a limited discount path for the most dedicated players.
