Minecraft Bedrock Edition Is Running on Apple Silicon Macs With Crossplay and Controller Support

Minecraft Bedrock Edition is now running on Apple Silicon Macs through an unofficial fan project called Blockintosh, giving Mac players access to features that have traditionally been limited to Bedrock supported platforms.

Minecraft Java Edition has long been available on macOS, but Mojang has never released the Bedrock version for Mac. That matters because Bedrock supports cross platform multiplayer across Windows, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Android and iOS.

Blockintosh aims to close that gap by bringing Bedrock to Apple Silicon hardware through a custom launcher.

Blockintosh Brings Bedrock Features to macOS

The project is being developed by a 22 year old self taught developer and is already running on modern Apple Silicon Macs.

Early previews show a custom launcher that includes world management, access to installed game builds, mod support and Xbox social features.

The project is still community developed rather than an official Mojang release, so long term compatibility and support will depend on continued development.

Bedrock Crossplay Is the Biggest Advantage

Java Edition already works on Mac, so the main reason Blockintosh matters is Bedrock's broader multiplayer compatibility.

Bedrock players can normally join friends across Windows PCs, Xbox consoles, PlayStation systems, Nintendo Switch and mobile devices.

Mac players using Java Edition do not receive the same native cross platform experience with Bedrock players.

By getting Bedrock running on Apple Silicon, Blockintosh allows a Mac to participate in that broader ecosystem.

For families or groups where everyone plays Minecraft on different hardware, that could be more useful than simply having another version of the game available.

Native Controller Support Is Another Difference

Minecraft Bedrock includes built in controller support.

Java Edition can also be played with controllers, but doing so generally requires additional configuration or mods.

For Mac owners who prefer playing from a controller, Bedrock therefore offers a more console like experience out of the box.

The Bedrock version also provides access to the Minecraft Marketplace, which offers paid and free content including skins, worlds and branded crossover packs.

The Marketplace is not as open ended as the Java modding ecosystem, but it provides a simpler way to install curated content.

Mac Remains One of Bedrock's Few Missing Platforms

Minecraft Bedrock is already available on most major gaming platforms.

That makes macOS one of the more noticeable omissions, particularly because Minecraft Java Edition already supports Apple's computers.

Linux is another major desktop platform without an official native Bedrock release.

Mojang has not announced plans to bring Bedrock Edition to macOS, so Blockintosh currently fills a gap that the official game still leaves open.

The Project Could Be Useful Even With Java Already Available

For many existing Mac players, Java Edition will remain the preferred version because of its large modding community and long established support.

Blockintosh is more interesting for players who specifically need Bedrock compatibility.

That includes people who want to join friends on consoles, use native controller support or access content built around the Bedrock ecosystem.

The project is still unofficial and should not be confused with an official Mojang port, but its early progress shows that Minecraft Bedrock can run on Apple Silicon while retaining features that Mac players have previously missed.

If development continues successfully, Blockintosh could give Mac owners a practical way to join the same Bedrock multiplayer environment used across Windows, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and mobile devices.
