Microsoft has announced its latest Surface for Business devices, and most of the update is exactly what you would expect. The new lineup brings Intel Core Ultra Series 3 chips, also known as Panther Lake, to the Surface Pro for Business and Surface Laptop for Business. The design is mostly unchanged, but one feature stands out: an integrated privacy screen.
The new privacy screen is available on select configurations of the 13.8 inch Surface Laptop for Business. It is designed to reduce side viewing angles, making it harder for someone nearby to read your screen. That could be useful for people working in offices, airports, coffee shops, trains, or anywhere sensitive information can be seen by others.
Unlike a physical privacy filter, this feature is built directly into the display. You can turn it on when needed, and the screen limits how much light is visible from the sides. Microsoft has not yet shown enough real world testing to prove how effective it is, but the idea makes sense for business laptops.
| Device | Main update | Starting price |
|---|---|---|
| Surface Pro for Business 12th Edition | Intel Core Ultra Series 3, optional 5G, up to 17 hours video playback | $1,949 |
| Surface Laptop for Business 13 inch | Intel Core Ultra 300 series | $1,499 |
| Surface Laptop for Business 13.8 inch | Intel Core Ultra Series 3, optional privacy screen | $1,949.99 and up |
| Surface Laptop for Business 15 inch | Intel Core Ultra Series 3, larger 120Hz display | Price not clearly listed |
The Surface Pro for Business sees the biggest price jump. The previous business model started at $1,499, while the new 12th Edition starts at $1,949. Microsoft says the new tablet can support up to three external monitors, thanks to the Panther Lake platform. Battery life is also rated at up to 17 hours of video playback.
The new Surface Pro still offers 13 inch OLED and LCD display options, optional 5G, Surface Connect, and familiar Surface accessories. Microsoft is also adding a 64GB RAM option, which should help business buyers who need more memory for heavier workloads.

The Surface Laptop for Business also gets Panther Lake chips across the larger models. The 13.8 inch and 15 inch versions can be configured with up to 64GB of RAM. They also keep Thunderbolt 4, WiFi 7, and Bluetooth 5.4. The larger models support 120Hz displays and up to three external monitors.
Battery life is a little mixed. Microsoft lists the 13.8 inch Surface Laptop for Business at up to 23 hours, while the 15 inch model is listed at up to 21 hours. That is still strong, but slightly lower than the previous generation in some cases. Microsoft has also removed 5G from the Surface Laptop options.
The smaller 13 inch Surface Laptop for Business keeps the $1,499 starting price, but Microsoft is also offering a cheaper $1,299 model with only 8GB of RAM. That lower memory option may help businesses buy in bulk, but 8GB feels limited for a premium business laptop in 2026.
The new Surface for Business lineup is not a dramatic redesign. Most of the hardware looks familiar, and the biggest changes are the new Intel chips, pricing, memory options, external display support, and the privacy screen.
For most people, the privacy screen is the most interesting part. Faster processors are expected in every new laptop generation, but built in screen privacy is a practical feature that many business buyers could actually use. Microsoft’s new Surface devices may look boring on the surface, but that one display feature gives the update a clearer purpose.
