Forza Horizon 6 launches on May 19, but the game’s PC release has already been hit by a major leak.
A cracked build of the Steam version appeared online before launch, allowing some players to access the game early. The leak arrived just days before Premium Edition owners get early access on May 15, creating an ugly situation for one of Xbox’s biggest releases of 2026.
Early reports suggested the issue may have come from Steam preload files being uploaded without encryption. Microsoft and Playground Games later disputed that, saying the leaked build was not caused by a preload issue.
The companies also made it clear that they are taking strong action against anyone accessing the leaked version. Players caught using it can face franchise wide bans and hardware bans.
One reported player was banned for “cheating/unallowed modding,” with an expiration date of December 31, 9999. That is effectively a lifetime ban.
The hardware ban is the bigger problem. A hardware ID ban does not only affect one Xbox account. It can block access from the PC itself, making it difficult to bypass with a new account or a Windows reinstall. In many cases, replacing major hardware such as the motherboard may be the only reliable way around it.
Here is the current situation:
| Detail | Status |
|---|---|
| Game | Forza Horizon 6 |
| Official launch | May 19, 2026 |
| Premium Edition early access | May 15, 2026 |
| Leak | Cracked PC build appeared online before release |
| Microsoft’s claim | Not caused by a preload issue |
| Enforcement | Franchise wide bans and hardware bans |
| Reported ban date | December 31, 9999 |
Microsoft’s response is not surprising. Forza Horizon 6 is a major Xbox release and is expected to be one of the biggest Game Pass titles of the year. A full PC build leaking before launch can hurt sales, spoil content, and damage the launch window.
The leaked build may be playable, but it is not worth the risk. Players who use it could lose access to Forza services across the franchise and may end up with a hardware ban tied to their PC.
Tools that claim to bypass hardware bans are also risky. Many are unreliable, and some can contain malware, keyloggers, or other unsafe software.

Forza Horizon 6 is set in Japan and is one of the most anticipated entries in the series. The official release is only days away, and waiting for the proper version means access to updates, online features, achievements, saves, and support.
The message from Microsoft and Playground Games is clear: do not play the leaked build. Anyone who does risks consequences that can last far longer than the wait for launch.
