Microsoft Flight Simulator gets a major Australia update with 40 new areas of interest

Microsoft Flight Simulator has received World Update 21, and this time the focus is Australia. The update adds a large set of visual improvements across the country, with Microsoft and Asobo calling it a new standard in realism for pilots.

The update was built with data and work from Bing Maps, Vexcel, Gaya, and Asobo. It improves terrain, cities, coastlines, deserts, mountains, rainforests, and major landmarks across Australia.

World Update 21 adds 40 new areas of interest recreated with photogrammetry and triangulated irregular network surface texturing. These cover all six Australian states and self governing territories. Major cities such as Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Hobart, Darwin, and Canberra are included, along with regional locations and natural landmarks.

Six handcrafted airports are included

The update also adds six handcrafted airports:

For Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 players, the update also includes three discovery flights, five precision landings, two low altitude challenges, and two rally race challenges. The older 2020 version gets the world update too, but it does not include all of those activity options.

The update arrives after World Update 20, which focused on Japan in September 2025. That makes Australia the first major World Update of 2026.

The best part is that it is free. World Update 21: Australia is available now for Microsoft Flight Simulator and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 as an optional download from the in game marketplace.
