Lies of P studio is hiring an AI Creator, and fans are worried about what that means for the sequel

Lies of P developer Round8 Studio is hiring for a role focused on generative AI, and the listing is already raising questions about how the studio plans to build future games.

The job is called “AI Creator.” According to the listing, the person will use generative AI technology to improve the efficiency of the art production process and help innovate the visual quality of games.

That wording is enough to make some fans nervous. Generative AI remains one of the most controversial topics in game development, especially when it touches art, writing, voice work, or other creative areas.

The listing says the role includes creating character and background concept drafts, AI based texturing, modeling assistance using image to 3D technology, and asset creation. It also says Round8 wants someone who can combine artist creativity with AI productivity to build the studio’s art pipeline.

That last part is important. This does not sound like a small experiment with one tool. It suggests Round8 wants generative AI to become part of how its art pipeline works.

Here is what the listing points to:

AreaPlanned AI use
Concept artCharacter and background drafts
TexturingAI based texture assistance
ModelingImage to 3D support
Asset creationFaster production of game assets
PipelineBuilding AI into Round8’s art workflow

The timing matters because Round8 is working on the next Lies of P game. The original Lies of P became one of 2023’s standout action games, and fans are waiting to see how the sequel builds on it after the game’s major DLC expansion.

That is why this job listing has drawn attention. If Round8 is hiring someone to build AI into its production process now, the sequel may use generative AI during some part of its art development.

That does not automatically mean the final game will look worse, or that artists will be removed from the process. The listing still talks about combining artist creativity with AI productivity. But it does mean AI could be involved in drafts, textures, models, or other visual work before assets reach their final form.

The concern is easy to understand. Many players and developers worry that generative AI can reduce human creative input, weaken art direction, or rely on questionable training data. Backlash around AI use in games has already happened before, including when Larian faced criticism after AI use was mentioned around concept art.

At the same time, the industry is clearly moving in this direction. Many studios are already using AI tools in some form, even if they do not always talk about it openly. Some games known or believed to have used AI during development have still received strong reviews and sold well.

That creates an awkward situation. A vocal part of the audience dislikes generative AI, but it is not yet clear that most players will avoid a game because AI tools were used during production.

For Round8, transparency may matter more than the tool itself. If the studio explains how AI is being used, how human artists remain in control, and whether final assets are reviewed and created ethically, it may reduce some concern.

For now, the listing shows that Round8 wants AI to help speed up art production. The bigger question is how deeply that will affect Lies of P 2 and whether fans will still feel the same trust in the studio’s visual identity once the game is shown.
