LG UltraGear 480Hz OLED Gaming Monitor Drops Below $470 in Major Amazon Deal

LG’s 27 inch UltraGear OLED gaming monitor has received one of its largest discounts yet, bringing a premium 480Hz display into a much more accessible price range.

The LG UltraGear 27GX790A is currently available for about $468, down from its original $999.99 launch price. That represents a discount of more than 50 percent and puts the monitor at a new low price.

For competitive PC gaming, the main attraction is straightforward. You get a 2560 x 1440 OLED panel capable of running at up to 480Hz, combined with an advertised 0.03ms response time.

LG combines 1440p OLED quality with a 480Hz refresh rate

Many extremely fast gaming monitors still rely on lower resolution panels, but this UltraGear model delivers its maximum 480Hz refresh rate at QHD resolution.

That makes it particularly interesting if you play competitive shooters but do not want to drop back to 1080p.

LG lists a 1,500,000:1 contrast ratio, HDR10 support, DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification, and 98.5 percent DCI P3 color coverage.

OLED technology also gives the monitor the deep black levels and near instantaneous pixel transitions that make these panels especially suitable for fast games.

480Hz is aimed primarily at competitive players

A 480Hz refresh rate will not provide the same benefit in every game.

Large single player releases may never approach frame rates high enough to fully use the display. Competitive games such as Counter Strike 2, Valorant, Overwatch 2, and similar titles are much better candidates, particularly when paired with powerful hardware and reduced graphics settings.

At high frame rates, the combination of 480Hz and OLED response times can reduce motion blur and make fast movement easier to follow.

The monitor also supports NVIDIA G Sync compatibility and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, helping reduce tearing when your frame rate varies.

DisplayPort 2.1 gives the monitor modern connectivity

Another notable feature is DisplayPort 2.1.

LG also includes two HDMI 2.1 connections, making the monitor suitable for several devices even though consoles cannot take full advantage of the 480Hz maximum refresh rate.

The display includes USB connectivity and a 3.5mm audio output as well. Its stand supports height adjustment, tilt, swivel, and pivot, while standard VESA mounting is available if you prefer a monitor arm.

The discount changes the value considerably

The 27GX790A originally occupied a difficult position at around $1,000.

At that price, buyers had several larger OLED displays and high resolution alternatives to consider.

At roughly $468, the comparison changes substantially.

Recent discounts had already pushed the model to around $500, but the latest price falls below those previous deals and is more than $530 below its original launch price.

You still need a capable PC to benefit from 480Hz at 1440p, and many games will never reach that frame rate. However, competitive players who specifically want extremely high refresh rates no longer have to choose between OLED image quality and top tier speed.

For under $500, the LG UltraGear 27GX790A now offers a combination of QHD resolution, OLED contrast, 480Hz performance, DisplayPort 2.1, and modern adaptive sync support that was firmly in premium territory when the monitor first launched.
